PODS met me in the middle in terms of the price and i ordered the container to be delivered this week. PODS allows a month to complete the move so i figure perhaps 10 days to load, 10 days for them to get the container from NJ to FL, and 5 days to unload = 25 days. something like this. my heart was rooting for the Penske truck but my mind knew it was not a smart option. almost the same price and a lot more dangerous. too many idiots on the road. driving the truck on its own is fine, but once you add on the trailer ( to tow the car ) you're now pushing your luck. the other issue with Penske truck is you only get a week to complete the move versus a month with pods ( for almost the same price ). this is because a truck is a lot more expensive than a container so PODS can let you take your time to load and unload but with Penske you have to do it in one day and that is only feasible when the movers do it and Movers break things. by having extra time i can move move items myself thus reducing the odds of things getting damaged. i probably have about 2,000 lbs worth of stuff in the basement that will have to be loaded on the truck and you can't do that in one day on your own. in a week ? easy ! ultimately PODS just seemed like a more logical solution. for the first haul i chose Penske truck because i didn't have a car to haul. my car stayed in NJ and by driving the truck myself i automatically arrived at the same time as all my things like inflatable bed and folding tables etc. it worked perfectly. but now i need to move the car and i don't need to arrive at the same time as my stuff because i already have everything set up on the other side including gigabit wifi. this time it doesn't matter if my stuff arrives before or after i do. my driving the car i can go about 85 mph, whereas the truck is capped at 70 mph ( which is still a safe speed ) but with a trailer i would be limited to about 55 mph that is no longer safe as all the trucks move at 70 mph ( chip limit ) and constantly being passed by trucks while you're in a truck yourself and hauling a car trailer is a nightmare, and i decided paying a bit extra with PODS to avoid this was worth it. but the best part is without a truck i can stay at any hotel i want whereas with a truck and trailer i would have to stay in shitty ass motels that happen to have a large and empty parking lot. i liked having that Penske option because having options is always good but PODS just makes a lot more sense. i already miss the Penske truck though. it was such a cool experience. it was so cute and yellow and everybody loved it. i have never seen as many smiles in my life as the Yellow Penske truck drew when you would randomly pull up to a Hilton in it LOL. well Frens the packing is intensifying ! on Saturday i had SUMMER tires installed on the car today i packed my bed and will be sleeping on an air mattress from now on tomorrow i hope to pack this computer ( i already packed two other computers a while back ) i STILL haven't decided whether to go with PODS or Penske but PODS went back on their $4,000 offer and said that was only valid in January they now want $5,000 so i might go with Penske also PODS said if i agree to their new price ( i won't ) the soonest i can get the POD delivered is next Saturday ... so i don't really like this. i mean usually what happens is PODS gives you shit price first then after a while they call you and offer a lower price but i can't wait another week for them to give me a lower price because then i will need to wait yet a week more for the actual pod ... but it will also depend on the weather ... if the weather is too shit i may have to use PODS still ... but regardless i am almost packed for the second and final haul from NJ to FL if i come back to NJ after this it will be as a guest ...
