Testing both servers from central USA:
Fetched 500 notes from nostr.mom server-
in Germany in 0.9 seconds
in Oregon, USA in 0.5 seconds
So the new server is working well and sped up communication.
Next: doing the same for nos.lol!
Added a new server for nostr.mom, that is located west of USA. Users in Japan and most of USA may see faster responses from nostr.mom in a few hours.
Playing with GeoDNS and latency based DNS. You may get a faster responding relay soon!
nos.lol upgrading to new version. database rebuilding. it has currently 17 million+ notes.
Today I got an anonymous and big donation!
The community here is so beautiful! Proud to be part of this!!
What do you guys want from a relay? Faster, more available (no down time), keeping the old notes, keeping spam lower...
Relay traffic is 2.5x more compared to June average. Nostr is winning.
I haven't changed spam filter codes on the relays for a while. So I can talk about what they are doing:
😸 nos.lol: Looks at pubkeys while determining whether to accept or reject notes, unless the pubkeys from single IP becomes too many. Then it blocks the IP. Does not care about the reports of other people. Suitable for relay - relay syncs as well as regular users, however if the relay is spammy its IP will be rejected. More allowing than nostr.mom, a lot more people are using it, which means a lot more notes. One of the most popular relays!
🤱 nostr.mom: Looks at IPs to determine if someone is spamming. This is more brutal than looking at pubkeys. Hence, less spam. Also looks at reports of other people, so if someone is reported a lot then the notes from that person is rejected. However if the person is well known it would require a lot more reports for him to be rejected. Suitable for regular users who want a cleaner Nostr experience. Not many clients are using it as default relay, so if someone is here that means they may have wanted to be here.
I had to collect before animals. Some turned red some remained green. Guess the green ones will become pickles.
