Václav Havel discussed "parallel structures" or "parallel societies" (often called the "parallel polis") as a strategy for resisting totalitarianism in Czechoslovakia. These were independent networks of culture, education, information, and economy which operated outside state control, fostering authentic human life and truth. I often think about that.
