When I was a kid, I played Super Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. I got all the way to the final boss, but I fucked up. "Debates" where people posted hundreds of links to external articles, each one with hundreds or thousands of words... it wasn't so much two people engaging with eachother's ideas as it was two people throwing oceans of words at eachother with little concern or attention given for their contents. These debators had no concern for why the other debater disagreed with them. They didn't even care to identify the essential reasons for their own beliefs. After that day I swore that from that moment on, I would never, ever post a source for any of my beliefs. Arguments should not be a game of whoever can hand out a longer homework assignment. Arguments should be about quoting your opponent and distilling the core of your disagreement.
