Something I am grateful to my medical training for is spending an extensive amount of time studying physiology, metabolism & anatomy. These foundations have been crucial to build on through my own self-guided learning & exploration.

Centralized Medicine = Searching for diagnostic label to initiate generalized pharmaceutical treatment pathway. Top-down, disease-centred framework. Decentralized Health Optimisation = Detecting & Correcting individual imbalances. Bottom-up, systems biology-based framework.

Decentralized medicine empowers everybody to take ownership for their own health. Nobody is coming to save you. You need to make changes to your own life. Its a beautiful gift, but an even greater responsibility.

Mitochondria lie at the heart of chronic, neolithic disease. Don't ever forget it. Take care of your colony.

Decentralized Health & Decentralized Wealth This Is The Way

Reclaiming sovereignty over my life was one of the core reasons (there are many) to leave the conventional medical system and setup a decentralized health optimisation practice. Sure, sometimes I still work 10-12hr days, but yesterday for example the sun was shining and I spent the morning getting raw milk and eggs at the farm, called an old friend while walking around in the garden, did client work in the early afternoon, then went for a cycle to a nearby calisthenics park + swim in the sea. I struggled to live a life where others constantly told me what to do and when to do it, dictated what I could and could not say. I can still work hard and find purpose in my work, but I can also choose to prioritize sunlight and sea swims when the weather commands it. image

Centralized medicine is focused on blood sugar and insulin levels. Decentralized health focuses on what your cells are able to do with that fuel! It looks into mitochondrial function and metabolism. One optimises for markers that are easily measured, then prescribes drugs to shove glucose into cells, but does nothing to help the mitochondria that are already struggling - that is why cells aren't accepting insulin in the first place. image

My testosterone was 1138ng/dl (2024, retesting soon). *Yes I will actually show you some receipts. So what do I do? - Optimize sleep (9pm-5am +1-2hrs in winter) - Maximised sunlight exposure especially UV - Kept my circadian rhythms in sync - Micronutrient dense diet (animal based) - Exercised consistently - Built a healthy amount of lean muscle mass - Avoided xenoestrogens as much as possible - Daily grounding as much as possible - Believed in my often contrarian viewpoints despite mainstream ideology The fundamentals are what matter. Always. This is the way. image

Drivers of Thiamine Deficiency 1. Dietary Choices - Refined sugar and carbohydrates - White rice intake (polished rice) - Processed foods - Frequent alcohol consumption 2. Poor Absorption - Chronic gut issues (SIBO, IBD) - Thiamine inhibitors (coffee, tea, raw fish) - Medications (metformin/ diuretics for example) -General digestive impairment 3. Increased Losses - Kidney disease - Diabetes -Diarrhea or chronic loose stools - Vomiting 4. Increased Demand - Excessive exercise - Surgery or infection - Pregnancy and lactation - Hyperthyroidism - High carbohydrate diet 5. Oxidative Stress - Impaired antioxidant system - Environmental Toxicities

On the importance of spontaneous curiosity & exploration. "I wonder what's over that hill over there..." "Where does this little path lead to..." When this feeling arises, follow it. Always follow it. Its the path to adventure. Where side quests are found. This is what humans are built for. This is our niche.

The microbiota target mitochondria to regulate their interaction with us. If this signalling is imbalanced that will result in a mito dysfunction -> cellular dysfunction. We know that short chain fatty acids have beneficial effects on mitochondrial activity. Gut health drives healthy mitochondria and the two cannot be separated. This is the holobiont perspective. Systems upon systems. image

If you want freedom, you have to take control of your health. It is foundational.
