We all carry it. That low hum underneath everything that says something is wrong inside of us. The habit you swore off. The pattern you’ve outgrown three times and somehow inherit again. The version of yourself you promised you were done with, who keeps showing up wearing your face. I told myself “never again” for years. Meant it every time. And every time, I drifted back like it had a gravitational pull I didn’t get to vote on. Was I lying to myself? Probably. Yes, definitely. I didn’t want the desires. I was tired of it. But in the loneliness I’d reach for it anyway. Not because it worked. Because it was familiar. The conscience goes quiet by degrees. You don’t notice the calluses until one day you can touch the hot thing and not flinch. The wrestle isn’t a glitch, It’s our wiring. The pull toward self is louder than the pull toward what’s good for you. The rot goes all the way through. You can’t out discipline it. You can’t out think it. You can’t optimize, biohack, or therapy it into submission. I tried. For years. What I am, on my own, is a dead man. And a dead man only sinks. He doesn’t swim back to shore by trying harder. He gets pulled out, or he doesn’t. I needed something from outside of me. That’s where I finally found ground. If you’re reading this and you know exactly what I’m describing, listen. You are not alone in this fight. The thing you think makes you uniquely broken is the most universal thing about you. Stop trying to be your own savior. The exhaustion lifts the moment you stop drowning in your own rescue attempts. This is more important than the career. More important than the portfolio. More important than the protocol, the followers, the next move, the next milestone. You can win every other game on the board and lose this one and lose everything. Seek Christ. Not a better version of yourself. Not a sharper plan. Christ. The one who pulls dead men out of the water and gives them lungs that work. He has not lost a single one He came for. You are not too far. You are not too late. You are not the exception. Bring the hidden thing into the light. Then look outside yourself for the rescue you were never going to manage on your own. He’s already reaching.

Palantir’s CEO wrote a manifesto arguing the U.S. should end the all volunteer force and impose “universal national service” so the cost of war is shared. His company holds billions in DoD contracts. The cost won’t be shared, the contract will be. The volunteer force is friction. It’s the last point in the system where a young man can refuse with his feet. The empire already burned through that consent. Recruitment collapsed. Wars without victories stopped selling, and the men selling them know it. So the man building the surveillance grid writes a book about your duty. Universal national service is the marketing name. Conscription is the product. Shared sacrifice is the slogan. Karp’s sons won’t share it, yours will. The volunteer force is the only vote anyone still gets on the next war. They want it gone for the obvious reason.
