There’s a real upside to how visible this all is. You comment on the right post, zap the right person, show up consistently, and people actually see you. Opportunities open up that never would have in a closed room. That part’s genuinely good, and it’s part of why this space works the way it does. But that same visibility also has a cost. When you’re chasing being seen, liking, zapping, commenting to stay in someone’s orbit, it’s easy to stop asking who you’re actually orbiting. Attention becomes the goal instead of the relationship. And that’s exactly the gap people with an agenda are looking for. They don’t need you to trust them completely. They just need you distracted enough by the visibility game that you stop checking who’s using who. Not saying don’t engage. Just saying know why you’re doing it. There’s a difference between building something with someone and performing proximity to them for what it gets you. One of those protects you. Living on borrowed time, man, and most people still walk around like they got a lease with no end date. Nobody’s gonna tell you when it’s up. You don’t just wake up wise one day. You notice sh*t. Some mistake you made, something someone said that pissed you off till you actually sat with it and realized, damn, they were right. Doesn’t feel like learning in the moment. Feels like a bad day, or some argument you can’t stop replaying in your head. Then a few years go by and you’re just… not the same person anymore. Can’t even point to the day it happened, cause there wasn’t one. You just kept paying attention when it would’ve been easier not to. So pay attention. Whatever it hands you, take the lesson and keep moving.

Real peace isn't the absence of problems. It's the ability to exist calmly alongside them. Problems will always exist. Peace is a skill, not a circumstance. Build it regardless of what's happening around you.

Bitcoin was built to remove trust from institutions. It was never going to remove the reasons people fail each other. Neither poverty nor riches. Just enough to stay honest.

This week left casualties that don’t fit neatly into one category. Monetary casualties, obviously, savings that took years to build gone in minutes. Integrity casualties, the kind that don’t show up on a chain but cost just as much, trust between people who built things together, trust in a device marketed as the safest place to hold your life’s work. And quieter than either, life casualties. Plans delayed. Families affected. Some of that we’ll never see posted because grief doesn’t always announce itself. Anger is earned here. So is sadness, and so is confusion. Nobody owes anyone a calm reaction to losing what they worked for. This is a historical moment in Bitcoin’s history, and not the kind anyone wanted to write about. There will be division over it. Not everyone, but enough, and Nostr is small enough that enough matters more here than it would somewhere bigger. Accountability isn’t complicated, even when the technical story is. Not everyone at the front of Coinkite carries equal responsibility for what happened in the code. Most people there had nothing to do with a commit made years before they clocked in. But responsibility and honesty aren’t the same ask. Coming forward and telling the truth, plainly, about what you knew and when, or admitting what you genuinely don’t know, and saying you’re sorry without qualifying it into nothing, that goes further in a culture this soaked in distrust than any advisory or firmware patch will. Frighteningly so, because right now silence reads as guilt whether it’s earned or not, and that’s corrosive for everyone still standing here. So where do we go from here, as the people still building this thing. We keep verifying, especially when it’s uncomfortable, especially when it’s someone we like. We keep asking direct questions without turning every question into a verdict before it’s answered. We hold the people responsible for code accountable to the code, and we hold ourselves accountable to fairness while we do it. We remember that self custody was never a promise of perfection, it was a promise that the responsibility, and the power, stays with you instead of a bank. That promise held even this week. Painfully, expensively, but out in the open, the way it’s supposed to work when it works. Bitcoin doesn’t need everyone to agree on how angry to be. It needs everyone to keep showing up, keep checking their own work, and keep choosing honesty over comfort when it’s their turn to speak. That’s the whole ask. Nothing more complicated than that.

Peter Todd flagged the multisig risk most people weren’t even thinking about yet, the 2-of-3 setups where two compromised Coldcards can still burn you even if you did everything else right. None of these guys are loud about it. No thread demanding credit, no victory lap. Just did the work, said what they found, moved on. That’s what actually protects this space. Not outrage. Not certainty. People willing to check, and willing to say what they found even when it’s inconvenient for someone they know.

Curiosity beats authority in almost every conversation. The guy asking real questions controls where it goes. Everyone else is just reacting. Ask more than you assert. It’s fine not to know. Half the people talking with total confidence right now don’t either.
