Trying out the #Blobbi project. What a fantastic idea. This could really spring into something. The nostalgia of Tamagochis, the openness and versatility of Nostr as a protocol, and a coating of modern paint, there's some serious potential in this.

If you want to run a node that has clear defaults in terms of what it stores, with little control or say on the matter, run #Bitcoin #Core. If you want full control over to remain flexible over what transactions are stored, run #Bitcon #Knots. Simple. Core closing up discussion on the matter and banning people is the real issue here in my opinion. But at the end of the day, that's what forks are for.

To all #Start9 node runners out there, if you're aware of what's going on with Bitcoin #Core, but think you need to resync the entire #timechain again - you do NOT. Just switch to Bitcoin #Knots (click "Reinstall")! It'll swap out Core for Knots and give you back the control you had previously and and your indexer (electrs, etc) will simply reindex blocks - I did this on a running node, with Lightning active, no issues. If you get an "not successful" message, don't fret - You'll see it installed anyway and all is working, the message is mainly a cosmetic issue.

Disagree with the BS happening over at #Bitcoin #Core? That's fine. Make it known by running a different fork of the software on your #node. The quicker people understand THEY have the power, the quicker we move on from this, stronger. If you're looking for an alternative, Bitcoin #Knots is the biggest contender.

@calle I understand the nutshell wallet has built-in TOR, but does the mint? Not to be accessed over TOR necessarily, but to connect to the Lightning backend. Show-stopper for those on @Start9 nodes unfortunately. Does it have SOCKS option? Looking through the .env options it seems only the wallet has this.

I come back to Nostr after some time, and I see people shilling Signal as an alternative to other platforms. Nevermind the fact it's still centralised and people are at the mercy of a Big Corp, just like most of the platforms initially ran away from. Matrix is THE best current alternative, using an optionally federated approach. The new IRC.

Wow, finished checking out #Umbrel #node after a few years. Surprised to see how garbage it still is compared to other plug&play node stacks. Dojo server is years out of date. That's right 🤢 Can't use LNbits with Core-Lightning. In fact, pretty much no service at all can be used with Core-Lightning. 🤮 Many services are severely out of date. 😫 Umbrel is very likely putting its users into risk, and these are the sort of practices that made me leave it in the first place. Hugely disappointing, but at least the second chance was given. 😵‍💫 The UI is pretty and all, but functionally I can't even say it gives you is the bare minimum at this point... When you stack it against the competition, the bar is much, much higher than this.

A Russian friend recently got banned from Discord. Good thing I had onboarded them onto our Matrix server. Until Nostr is ready for such a demographic, It's the only way forward. They can get back to business as usual: - VoiP with friends. - Screensharing while gaming. - Able to engage with the wider internet by way of Matrix Spaces. - Sharing gaming guides. - Engage in gaming threads. Anyone still using Discord is enabling censorship and loss of freedom of information.

Matrix 2.0 is a game-changer for the #Matrix eco-system. It works. It's fast. It's secure (with refinements being made). It's featureful - Now with native 1:1 and Group #VoiP (No more Jitsi). The new auth service also supports upstream OpenID providers making authentication a breeze for new users - Perhaps #nostr could integrate somehow.. In the clip below, would be way faster on first login due to no device to verify and nothing to sync. Disclaimer: Zero effort was put into editing this quick clip.

Path Of Exile 2 #POE is GOOD. It's already set the bar, but I suspect it'll do it again for the F2P market when it fully releases next year. Lastly, runs OOTB on both Linux and Steam Deck. No tweaks, no issues - It just works. Can recommend for ARPG fans. #Gaming

If you're not constantly on the road, and have a house with an internet connection, you have no excuse. #umbrel & #start9 Over the years, Bitcoin has proved itself as an opportunity. An opportunity to take back control and with that, financial responsibility. If you hold Bitcoin, if you hold sats, you have a due diligence to YOUR sats, to keep custody OF YOUR sats. Otherwise they aren't yours. That's a fiat mindset - Borrowing/Using money that's not yours. This is why there's been a massive push for self-custody lightning, and most recently with Alby's excellent decision to sunset their some of their custodial services in favor of #albyhub. I've been outspoken against Alby's custody services in the past, not from a user experience PoV but because in the long-term it was prone to bring issues, and bring issues it did, bring issues it shall. One of Bitcoin's strength is in decentralizing money. Custodial services centralise money and identities. Take of that what you will. Look after your sats, or you've already lost them.
