I had a BBQ disaster last weekend. Got my grill cleaned up and time to redeem myself. Will cook another Pork Belly later today to tomorrow for “full” redemption. Note to self- Pork Belly is very flammable. 😂😂😂 image

GM, it’s time to be intentional, stack some Sats, and post some notes. But #coffeechain first. First thought I had today was I’ve been absent a lot the past six months. But I don’t think I’m the only one. NOSTR have brought me many friendships that have helped further develop my understanding of ₿itcoin and Lightning Node operations. Have a great day friends.🫂💜

SLOWLY THEN SUDDENLY.............. Department of Labor Rescinds 2022 Guidance Against Cryptocurrency in 401(k) Plans: The Department of Labor (DOL) recently rescinded its 2022 guidance that cautioned fiduciaries against offering participants a choice to invest in cryptocurrency in 401(k) plans. This action returns the DOL to a neutral approach on cryptocurrency investments; however, the department is stressing that plan fiduciaries must still exercise prudence when evaluating such options. In 2022, the DOL warned about significant risks that cryptocurrency investments present to participants' retirement accounts and advised fiduciaries to exercise "extreme care before they consider adding a cryptocurrency option to a 401(k) plan's investment menu for plan participants." The extreme care standard is not found in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and differs from ordinary fiduciary principles outlined in the law. The updated guidance applies to a wider range of digital assets like tokens, coins, crypto assets, and any derivatives thereof. Compliance Assistance Release No. 2025-01.

Remember Pleb Node Operators, you have voice even though the Core Devs don't want to hear it. ⚔️ Bitcoin Core Devs Set October Date for OP_RETURN Battle Victory Bitcoin Core developers have scheduled version 30 for October, dramatically expanding OP_RETURN data limits from 84 bytes to nearly 4MB by default. This ostensibly ends a heated year-long debate between ‘progressives’ like Antoine Poinsot and Peter Todd versus ‘conservatives’ led by Luke Dashjr and Bitcoin Mechanic, who argue Bitcoin should focus solely on financial transactions. While node operators can manually override the new settings, most will probably stick with defaults, effectively cementing the progressives' victory. Meanwhile, rival client Knots’s user base have grown to 11.5% in the interim.

We should all have a plan to transfer your ₿itcoin when our time has expired. While I see some flaws in this plan, at least he has one. Things to remember….under current US tax law, your cost basis nolonger matters when you die. Your ₿itcoin, land, stock, house, (whatever you own) gets a “step-up” to market value at date of death. What does this mean? If die tomorrow and ₿itcoin value is $ 110,000. If I own one bitcoin, it now has a cost basis of $110,000. If my spouse sells it, there is no income tax on the transaction. If she doesn’t , from that point forward she would have an income tax on any proceeds she receives over $110,000. The same goes for stocks, real estate….you name it. It doesn’t matter if I paid $ .50 for my bitcoin. The basis steps up to current value at date of death. It will be important to document that value. If it’s in the Will, it will most likely be subject to probate. Probate essentially means to look to the Will for instructions and authority.” Also if there is a probate, the Will becomes public record at the local courthouse. For the safety of your family’s, please don’t put Bitcoin information and instructions in your Will. Got questions, reach out and I’ll answer them. Just remember, my is free and it’s worth what you’ve paid for it. It you have serious ₿itcoin, go talk to an attorney and an accountant before you settle on how you finalize your plan. If I were asked, I’d leave the attorney out of the final plan, especially if they will be helping to administer the Estate and your Will. I’d have a trusted friend with a key, a spouse with a key, an oldest child with a key, and if a 5th key is needed, probably the girlfriend. JK on the girlfriend. I’d probably just do a 2 of 4 multi sig setup. 😂😂😂 View quoted note →

🚨Ocean Pool Maintenance 🚨 I checked my wallet and hadn’t received any lightning payments Since May 31. Went to Discord to check for problems and found this. Figured I’m not the only one so though I’d share. GN ———————————- Start of window: 2025-05-26 12:00 UTC (2025-05-26 8AM ET) End of window: 2025-06-06 20:00 UTC (2025-06-06 4PM ET) Window duration: Approximately 11 days Scope: Core Infrastructure Upgrades Expected Impact: Minimal: Delayed web/API stats; Network reconvergence; Lightning Payment Delays Potential Impact: Short client connection losses; fallback block reward handling. Details: OCEAN and partners will be performing major planned upgrades to core infrastructure at one of our hosting facilities as part of our ongoing efforts to improve reliability and redundancy of our services. During the maintenance window, client traffic may be routed through redundant systems, moved from one system to another, and otherwise routed as required to maintain maximum service availability during this upgrade. While there is no expected impact, there may be brief temporary disruptions to Stratum and/or DATUM miner connections during the maintenance window. These connection drops will be kept to an absolute minimum, and should go completely unnoticed by most miners. If you experience any extended service disruption, please reach out to us through our normal contact channels. During this maintenance window, the nodes backing the OCEAN Recommended, Core, and Data-Free templates will be upgraded to Bitcoin Core v29.0, and Bitcoin Knots v28.1 (20250305), respectively. The node configurations will remain unchanged; however, note that default options may have changed in the newer versions, as well as some forced policies in the case of Core. The Block Template pages will be updated during the maintenance. Before that time, please refer to the documentation for Bitcoin Knots and Bitcoin Core for details on expected changes. Additionally, these are expected to be the final upgrades to the Core and Data-Free templates. Please migrate to using your own node with DATUM Gateway so you have a full range of control over how you make your blocks. Additionally, for a short period during the maintenance window (not expected to exceed one hour), the TIDES reward system backend will be paused/offline for upgrades and related upgrade checks. Miner work submitted during this period will still be counted normally. However, as a result of real-time reward splits being unavailable while TIDES is offline, if an OCEAN block happens to be found during this short period, pool rewards will be handled the same as any other "empty block" reward that must be done in a secondary follow-up transaction. Finally, during this period the website and API statistics may not be updated and may take some time to catch up once TIDES upgrades are fully complete. Do not be alarmed. Again, all work accepted is being counted properly, and TIDES will catch up upon completion of the upgrades. These are completely separate systems. We expect the TIDES upgrades to happen during this window on 2025-06-03 (***UPDATED***), planned for between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC (12-1PM ET), however this is subject to change and we will update this notice to reflect any change in plans. Lightning payouts may be delayed longer than normal for any blocks found during the full maintenance window. These payouts may be consolidated for multiple blocks once upgrades are completed. Expected impact is no noticeable delay. Maximum potential impact is that lightning payouts are delayed until the end of the maintenance window. Again, however, no work is lost and payouts will still occur appropriately for work submitted. New Lightning configurations/changes may not be accepted during the maintenance window. Thank you for your patience as we make these ongoing improvements to provide you with the most reliable services possible. image

Sure would be easier to pay with ₿itcoin than Gold and Silver. I guess it will count as a workout having to lug bags of gold and silver around. 👇🏻😂😂😂😂😂👇🏻 image
