Did some advanced vinyasa yoga tonight with my 5 year old son. Well, actually - I do it, he climbs on my back, or finds a way to position himself on me. Lots of upper body, abs. He’s nearly 40 lbs. It was insanely challenging for me but pushed through. Not just the added weight, but balance and composure is tricky. Solid workout and flow. It’s a great bonding experience and he knows he’s pushing me to physical/mental limits and sees me pull through. I’m not a perfect dad but trying to show him the way. Maybe he’ll appreciate it someday, and carry these moments forward. #yoga

An interesting jiu jitsu observation: the ego is in a constant cycle - deflating, inflating, then deflating again. It never ends. I enjoy that dichotomy. Some people can’t handle the deflation part. They struggle with the mental bruising that comes from getting tapped repeatedly along the journey. I welcome it. Training either shows progression or exposes holes. There’s no bullshitting. You get real-time feedback. I got tapped 5 times in a single 5min roll this past week. The guy was technical and skilled. Respect is due when it’s not just deserved, but earned. Earned through perseverance and grit. And it’s also earned through the willingness to commit to this complex mental and physical chess match, where the real opponent you’re fighting isn’t the person across from you - it’s yourself. #jiujitsu #bjj
