Rewatching MTV’s Orange County film from 2002. Yea…yea, teen comedy. Honestly it’s one fine piece of cinema. It represents a time, place and vibe. Damn funny to boot. What the fuck happened? #MTV films were a force to reckon with. Orange County has a killer soundtrack: Social Distortion, Cream and Crazy Town’s “butterfly” to name a few. Total time capsule of the era. I’m not sure a film like this can be replicated proper in modern times, since it seems like the current youth culture kind of lacks the space to be freely creative/authentic. Wokism/Fiat ate up the carefree times of the early 2000s and beyond. Maybe if we shift our culture we shift what we produce/consume?
