Then explain to them that inflation literally causes all of this, and that the reason it feels like running on a treadmill is because **by default you get poorer if you dont get at least a 7% raise every year.** And then they say "but nobody would buy anything if money got more valuable, it would ruin the economy." Few seem to have any concept of how much easier life would be if money got more valuable over time rather than less. ESPECIALLY during a period of massive technological deflation. Imagine if everything you needed for your living standard was 10% cheaper/better quality each year? The literal opposite of the current system.
