It’s been several months that Kraken has blocked my access for being an Iranian citizen, though I am living abroad. It seemed terrible in the beginning, but this has been one of the best things that has happened to me. Use Peach, Robosats, and lnp2p. Fuck KYC!

When none of the CoinKite products had cameras or generated QR codes, NVK wouldn’t ever shut up about how cameras and QR codes were security risks. But now that the Coldcard Q has a camera and generates QR codes, they’re no longer seen as security risks. Interesting, isn’t it?

We gave Bitchat a try with the plebs during our Bitcoin walk. One missing feature is the ability to save a contact under a custom name. At this point, you can only change your own name—not the display names of your contacts. Also, the main page felt too crowded, constantly filled with updates about who’s going online or offline, making it easy to lose track of messages. That said, I appreciate that the app is still in its infancy, and hopefully, more improvements will come with future releases. View quoted note →

Dark City (1998) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995) are two of the most underappreciated sci-fi movies I have watched recently. #filmstr #scifi #moviestr #filmreview

Virtuosity (1995) Review 🚨 Cotains a pinch of spoiler — especially if you are like me and save the genre, you don't wanna know shit about a movie before watching it!) 🚨 Just watched Virtuosity with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Solid film. I really liked the core concept. Back in the day, this kind of AI seemed like pure science fiction. But having witnessed the power of AI today, I'd say it's not too far-fetched. That said, the film gets a little too over-the-top in the action scenes. I’m not a fan of moments where the hero dodges rifle bullets like he's invincible. Stuff like that breaks immersion and reminds you it’s just a movie. (It destroys suspension of disbelief.) There were also a few plot holes and rushed developments that left me wondering what just happened. Still, I'd give it a 6.5/10, and I'd say it's even rewatch-worthy. #Virtuosity #filmstr #filmreview image

I remember liking Darkman (1990) as a kid. Gave it a rewatch recently and holy shit, what a rotten pile of garbage! Right off the bat, the guy gets some rare experimental treatment that makes him immune to pain. How fucking convenient, huh? The plot is ridiculously childish, full of holes big enough to drive a truck through. You’ve got this nerdy-ass scientist suddenly turning into a fist-fighting badass, knocking dudes out like he's Mike fucking Tyson, then casually hanging off a flying helicopter like it’s just another Tuesday. Yeah, I spoiled a few parts, but who cares? I’m doing you a damn favor. This movie sucks and the less time you waste on it, the better. Sure, you can expect some rough edges with special effects from the early ’90s. Not every movie can pull a Robocop. (That shit still holds up and it was made three years earlier.) But Darkman? You’ve got glaring blue screen outlines not just in action scenes, but even when characters are just looking out a goddamn window. Seriously, how do you fuck up something that basic? I’ll admit, there were a couple of moments that still hit. Like when he rebuilds his lab, rigs up his half-burnt computer and starts over. That scene had a spark: rising from the ashes, the will to start again. That part spoke to me. But outside of that? Frame by frame, this film is straight-up shit. #filmstr #filmreview #kinostr image

I’ve been pretty slow with reading books lately, leaning more on audiobooks and podcasts over the past few years. But The Psychedelic Handbook by Rick Strassman has been a refreshing exception. I started reading the ebook, loved it, and ordered the paperback so my girl and I can read it together. I already know I’ll dive into the physical copy right after I finish the digital one! #nostrreads #bookstr image

That’s why it’s important to have a self-hosted AI model. I’ll spin one up as soon as I get my hands on a Mac Mini M4 and I’ll record a tutorial for it too. View quoted note →
