New first in the ongoing quest for self sufficiency. Homemade tallow soap. Made from our first on farm processed beef. I used the leaf fat from around the kidneys which is lovely buttery yellow in colour and much less beefy smelling. image If you don't have your own animals you can harvest tallow straight from your cooked meats by saving the juices in the pan after cooking or roasting meat or even making bone broth. Once the juices have cooled collect up the solid fat from the top. Or you could ask your butcher for the leaf fat and you might get lucky.

The only acceptable reason for an unannounced drop in is an oversupply of produce that you want to give to me. Still getting used to it but learning to feel gratitude over the social awkwardness.

I was a little overwhelmed with my garden this growing season. So now that all the veggies have finish for the season I'm completely dismantling and renovating a new, bigger vegetable growing area. This feels like a solid plan for getting on top of that overwhelmed feeling.
