Once upon a time, there was a project named "United Linux." It was an attempt by a consortium of Linux distributors to create a common base distribution for enterprise use to minimize duplication of engineering effort and form an effective competitor to Red Hat. The founding members of United Linux were SUSE, Turbolinux, Conectiva, and Caldera International (SCO Group). The consortium was announced on May 30, 2002. The end of the project was announced on January 22, 2004.

Growing hostile towards open source is a bad idea. The only party left to fork RHEL is Canonical (maybe the orignal founders of Red Hat, Bob Young, and Marc Ewing, also thinking to fork RHEL at this stage, lol).

Larry: Wim, What is this sudden blog post about RHEL?
Wim: We are going to set Enterprise Linux free for all. We can't afford not to.
Larry: Are you sure about that?
Wim: Yes, Sir, We will have a field day with IBM now. We are unbreakable Linux.
Larry *mumble*: Wait, are we the good guys, now?
KID: Can you write code without ChatGPT?
Me: Certainly! In fact, many people, including myself, have written code without the assistance of the Internet. We relied on reading documentation & books. However, modern technology has made the process much simpler. It is just another tool to speed up the process. Like any other tool, it is flawed too. I must say that the code generated by ChatGPT seems low quality and has several security bugs. (1/2)
Yay! Finally we hit the mark: #Linux Desktop Market Share is at 3%. If you add ChromeOS, then it is above 7%. LOL.

Correction. No forked announced of RHEL yet by Oracle. I am just sleepy here due to almost midnight. But, I need to find out how Oracle is planning to continue developing its version of Oracle Linux as IBM no longer publicly releases RHEL source code (SRPMs). Either we will see a new fork (emphasis mine), or Oracle will find a way to make it compatible with RHEL.

Oracle announces the fork of RHEL. In a blog post, Oracle said it would lunch its own version and take over developing the "Open Source" version of Redhat Enterprise Linux. say that you donβt want to pay all those RHEL developers? Hereβs how you can save money: just pull from us. Become a downstream distributor of Oracle Linux. We will happily take on the burden. #Linux https://www.oracle.com/news/announcement/blog/keep-linux-open-and-free-2023-07-10/
