The 'S' in IoT stands for security. The 'P' in AI stands for privacy.

A Perl programmer is asked to write a script to find all the prime numbers. They finish in 5 minutes. "How did you do it so fast?" asks their coworker. "I just used the is_prime function," they reply. "But Perl doesn't have an is_prime function!" yells back the coworker. The Perl programmer laughs. "I know. I wrote it in three lines."

So let me get this straight: First, it was Elon. Now, it is Mark. Two guys are removing all moderation rules on social media. And are people asking another billionaire to build alternative social media? Do you even hear yourself? That is not going to fix anything. Maybe we should go back to the days of blogs, mailing lists, individual forums, and RSS feeds and end this madness of centralized social media apart from the federation. I’m just saying

What do you think of an open-source app like VLC adding AI to auto-generate subtitles? This is not what VLC users and fans want. Many users don't want anything to do with AI in any form on their system, which again creates privacy issues. Folks who use VLC avoid streaming and other services for a reason. They don't want their data transmitted to parasites like OpenAI, Microsoft, or other AIs. I know VLC doesn't make any money. They need to get feedback from users before adding such a feature.
Why do developers find DNS so hard? It's just cache invalidation and naming things. 😏
Say you have a 26-year-old codebase of around 10,000 lines of C (a CLI app for Unix/Linux and no special hardware access or related to device drivers etc). It still works, but the code is messy because you were less experienced at that time. Now it's time to rewrite it from scratch. What language would you choose? Go? Rust? Python?
