Been playing on HF much of the day (FT8) and relatively quickly the10m and 12m bands went silent. 15m is still going. Then I find out there’s a severe geomagnetic storm hitting earth right now. That’ll do it.
The upside is it looks like a good chance of seeing the northern lights over the northern half of the US tonight. If the storm gets worse potentially most of the US maybe be able see the northern lights tonight in places where it’s rare to see them.
I’ve been vibe coding a GPS stabilized PTP grandmaster / NTP server solution on a BeagleBone Black. Some optimizations I made to it today brought down the standard deviation of the pulse per second signal to around 10 ns. I think that’s about as good as I’m going to be able to do with this hardware.
It was a fun project that turns into being a rabbit hole about what defines time and the accuracy of it. Anyway, for my AES67 audio over IP work, this is more than fine to sync everything.
