High housing prices + high property taxes = the new dying america.
I currently live in a mediocre part of the United States.
Very Pretty, but not much going for it beyond that.
Ok schools. Not much infra structure to speak of. The town is falling behind on general upkeep. Roads, bridges, etc. Etc.
Businesses are closing. Commercial rents are high and no working class people can afford to live here.
Precisely zero draw to any digital nomad.
If someone were to buy $1 million house here, which would be a VERY low-mid house, and stay there for 40 years, they would pay over $1 million in property taxes.
And for what? Roads and schools?
The view?
I love it here.
But It’s a boring place to live.
There’s no reason for people to move here. No reason to stay here.
No easy fix.
It is dying.
America tends to die in sections. (Think rust belt. ) This place, and places like it, will have to go through some serious pain before Americans find it a desirable place to live long term.
