The H1-B Visa hub bub on Twatter is very interesting and it's been wild seeing the commentary on both sides. Also interesting to see the lack of nuance in the discussion -- like the small scale it actually encompasses. Indian outsourcing has been much more detrimental to the American tech worker versus H1-B. At my last stop, I experienced 4 waves before the 5th finally got me. During that time, I became friends with some of the guys that "did the needful" for a handful of rupees per month. What I saw during those waves is they would replace stateside workers with anywhere from 3 to 10 Indian bodies. The outsourcing company would shoulder all of the employee load and risk. It was an out of sight, out of mind thing our company. Quality or speed of work literally didn't matter as long as it eventually got done. We had significant loss of corporate knowledge. Rework rates skyrocketed. Customer satisfaction dropped through the floor. What I also learned during that time was how these outsourcers operated degree and cert mills to "upskill" bodies for contract requirements. They had massive VCE libraries (iykyk) of all of the major certification tests and some even had onsite testing centers where they could just keep retaking until they passed. When I started at that company in 2002, we had a massive corporate campus with probably 600+ IT staffers. When my number was finally called in 2019, it was well under 100 and most of them were "thought leader" managerial roles. That was a significant loss of tech jobs in the Indianapolis metro area that was already pretty limited industry.

Today may have been the first Christmas in my life that I didn't eat a cookie or some dessert. I've been on a cut since mid-September and the temporary satisfaction I would have gotten just wasn't worth breaking the cycle.

I think most folks on #nostr are technically saaaaaavvy as fuck, but just in case there are some of you still using SMS as your second factor in a MFA setup, get that shit changed right now. While this should be done for every account, if by chance you're using SMS for any important email accounts that are tied to your financial well being or heaven forbit your Bitcoin, you're on borrowed time and those should be done first. They're saying 7-8 major telecom providers were all compromised including the biggies like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.
