Hmm. Maybe the shareholders should have looked a little closer at that Bitcoin thing?
I've had this discussion at our local Bitcoin Meetups, but when was the last time you were excited about a Microsoft product release? If you're in corporate IT, you know they are basically threatening to cut your support if you don't upgrade to Windows 11 this year. They've been a dying company resting on their Windows and Office monopolies and have made bad decision after bad decision and they're coming home to roost.
"The cuts continue at Microsoft where a yet undisclosed number of jobs are set to be slashed in the security, sales and gaming teams.
The news has broken just six days after the company said it would be losing some personnel due to poor performance. These latest job losses are separate and details are scant at the moment."

Microsoft Announces Second Wave of Layoffs in a Week - Tech.co
Microsoft confirms more cuts are incoming, including to its gaming and security teams, unrelated to last week's layoffs.
So just purged my follows of anyone that hasn't noted in 3 months and then added a bunch of new replacements. C'mon Nostrafarians, gimme something to zap.
We already have a boatload of bots here on #Nostr and that's without being an ad-supported social media model. Ever looked at the global feed? Would be cool if you (or clients automagically) could flag them somehow and then have bot-less feeds.
"Low-quality ‘slop’ generated by AI is crowding out genuine humans across the internet, but instead of regulating it, platforms such as Facebook are positively encouraging it. Where does this end?"

Research team is using AI to develop what they're calling Computationally Optimized Broadly Reactive Antigen (COBRA) technology. If this works, you only need one flu shot and it protects over your entire lifetime.
I'm skeptical (aren't we all after COVID) but I think the crux from my Ape brain is that what they've developed defeats all current known flu and mutations with like 99% efficacy and thus it would no longer be able to mutate into new strains. I'm no scientist but I have slept at a Holiday Inn multiple times in my life.
Today's flu vaccines suck and have like a 10-50% chance of success. It's why I just don't even bother getting one.

Not sure if any of you check out MIT Technology Review's "Breakthough Technologies" list every year, but they've released the 2025 edition.
Here they are:
1) The Vera C. Rubin Observatory: A powerful new telescope will help astronomers study dark matter, explore the Milky Way, and untangle other cosmic unknowns.
2) Generative AI search: Generative search promises to make finding what you’re looking for simple and quick. It may signal the end of traditional search engines and the rise of personal AI assistants.
3) Small language models: Cheaper and less power-hungry AI models can now stand with the heavyweights across a range of specific tasks.
4) Cattle burping remedies: A food supplement that significantly reduces the amount of methane that cattle belch is now available in dozens of countries.
5) Robotaxis: Driverless cars have completed years of beta testing, and they are now finally becoming available to the public.
6) Cleaner jet fuel: New fuels made from used cooking oil, industrial waste, or even gasses in the air could help power planes without fossil fuels.
7) Fast-learning robots: We’re getting closer to general-purpose robots that could be dropped into new environments and tackle a variety of tasks on our behalf, almost instantly.
8) Long-acting HIV prevention meds: A new drug could help us end AIDS once and for all—if we can ensure access for those who need it.
9) Green steel: Making steel is one of the largest industrial sources of carbon dioxide. The first industrial green-steel plant, which uses hydrogen made with renewable power is scheduled to begin operations next year in northern Sweden.
10) Stem-cell therapies that work: Experimental transplants of lab-made cells seem to be helping treat two very different conditions—epilepsy and type 1 diabetes.

What will really matter in the long run? That’s the question we tackle each year as we compile this annual list.
Elon Musk's villain arc is ramping up. Within the last two weeks:
1) Advocated against the American labor force. Got absolutely ratioed on his own platform and got his panties into a bunch.
2) Removed Blue Checks, wiped subscriptions, demonetized and deplatformed many of those with "negative" dissenting opinions.
3) Announced an algorithm change to further punish "negativity" which is completely subjective based on his closed source, proprietary AI models. So much for the "free speech town square" of the Internet.
4) Adjusted his account so only verified or mentioned accounts can reply to him. Anyone want odds that he isn't or won't be going after verified accounts behind the scenes?
That is full mask off dictator level behavior. Combine the fact they're launching X Payments and X AI to give him even more data and control over his paywalled fiefdom... Uh, no fucking thanks.
Is there a Primal OG or Legend list anywhere? I need to follow more active accounts and I'd venture a guess that if you dropped some coin, odds are you're an active noter. #asknostr
@miljan - Or maybe we can get an DVM under Explore?
From the "Anti-Social Social Media" files:
"Meta owns some of the most popular social networks on the planet, collectively used by billions of people. However, the future could see a shift toward bots and AI-generated "characters" designed to drive engagement and keep increasingly automated platforms afloat.
Meta is actively working to transform its social media platforms into spaces where AI bots interact with each other. Over the next few years, the company formerly known as Facebook aims to integrate AI technology to boost "engagement" with its three billion real, human users. This could either be a revolution or just another disastrously misguided idea, like the previously dismissed "metaverse" VR ecosystem.
Meta is currently developing several AI products, including a service designed to help users create AI bots on Instagram and Facebook. These bots could clone users' personalities and interact with other (non-bot) users on the network. The company hopes to attract younger audiences, who are apparently going crazy over AI these days."

So they're using an public LLM in OpenAI's GPT-40 and then shocked when it has noise? GIGO is like Day Fucking 1 of any Management Information System education.
Methinks AI usage in areas such as medical care should have specialized LLMs but I'm just a simpleton so what do I know?
