I think a lot of node runners’ decisions to switch to Knots has been about not wanting to have things dictated to them or forced upon them like they are in every other part of their lives. Rejection of 30 is as much about rejecting core’s approach to forcing it through and stifling dissent early on, as it has been about rejecting the technical arguments. But the technical arguments alone were enough for me. They point to hidden incentives outside of the goals of keeping Bitcoin secure and decentralized. Conventional IDs like SSNs are typically verified through manual processes, while digital IDs can be verified through automated processes, including those controlling access to funds, online access, point of sale processes, and social credit scoring systems, all in one fell swoop. How many things are you reliant on for survival and/or comfort if we ever face permanent supply chain issues? What things can you eliminate from your life today, to minimize the impact of hard times? I’ve eliminated all prescription drugs from my life for this reason. But there are still some holdout/habit supporting things that would really suck to suddenly not have without any sort of weaning time. A lot of people weighing in on the core vs knots debate are totally missing the point when it comes to the impact of the potential inclusion of CSAM to the Bitcoin blockchain. It’s not the potential inclusion of this data and imagery to the blockchain that is the threat. It’s what Bitcoin’s enemies DO with the knowledge of the potential inclusion of such material to the blockchain that is the threat. You know, the same people that have claimed that Bitcoin will boil the oceans and that it uses the same amount of electricity as a small country with every transaction? Absolute wizards. Unnecessarily altering the most important innovation in Human history since the harnessing of electricity. #runknots
