Happy to say I just got back from the return 12hr drive. 24 hours of driving in the past 4 days for a golden 24 waking hours hanging out with family. And did the whole trip on gas retailer gift cards purchased with Bitcoin. They worked!

It’s funny how popular compact SUVs are now. One family get together. Two RAV4’s one Subaru XV and one Acura CX – 50 in the driveway right now. My brother-in-law took me for a rip in the Acura and that thing is like it is on rails. And horsepower to spare.

Dad’s 80th birthday today. So glad I’m getting the opportunity to spend it with him. We are just going to have a little fire down on the beach with the family and see how many hot dogs we can smash. Might be a bit of whiskey involved.

It seems to be about the number required to follow to yield 50-100 active posters that share your philosophy and interests. It’d be cool if we could regularly prune our follow list based on “days since last post”. View quoted note →

It was cool I got to test my chops and pick the brain of a retired fund manager today. A couple that lives in the same little lakeside community my Dad and stepmom live in dropped by for a visit, returning from their usual home in Oregon. It was cool to ask a former manager in a tradfi services firm about his take on current events and his outlook for the next year. Sent him a copy of David Rogers Webb’s book. Should blow his mind.

Got to go for a rip into the mountains on the quads with my good old Dad today. We ended up about 3000’ above the lake. The first pic shows the point on the lakeshore 500yd down the lake from Dad and stepmom’s house. In the last one you can see the same point of land in the far distance.

Home fabricated wood splitter. Dad putting his mechanical engineering to work. Mounted a generator with a 10hp Tecumseh to the custom chassis built from an old trailer. The generator now powers a hydraulic pump and the 20,000lb hydraulic ram.

I can’t get over the trees here in BC bs northern AB. This Ponderosa Pine is 36” at the base and the largest limbs are more than 12” diameter.

The trusty steed made it. 12h15min. Only $125 worth of petrol, even at 30% higher fuel prices. I priced out flying and term parking and transit to nearest airports and the whole trip would have been $875. This will be about $300. Plus the bottle of whiskey and a jacket for my Dad’s birthday.
