@Daniel Batten In your latest newsletter, you mentioned that "Casa dos Ventos studied batteries, concluded it was cheaper to waste the power than to store it" and cited the article below. I wanted to highlight this to my social network, but don't see that in the article. Is there maybe an archive of an older version of the article that had that in there?

I'm considering selling the dozen or so LoRa nodes (Meshtastic, Meshcore, Reticulum) that I assembled, some of which have custom cases. A few months ago I had some money and blew it on buing a bunch of different makes and models of mesh nodes. My goal was to determine the pros and cons of each. My conclusion is that it doesn't really matter very much. The variables that really count are (MCU, antenna size/position, battery, and tx power). The battery size and antenna options are mainly a function of the case design and accessories. And for the question of whether you want a standalone unit with a keyboard and screen or not is something you can determine without buying anything. There are pros and cons to the completely standalone units, but I generally like them. Just depends on the use case. Considering that I can easily swap around antennas, and to some extent cases/batteries, my question to the crowd is: what is most important to you? A huge antenna, or a small node that is easy to carry? A huge battery, or something lighter & smaller? Having a tiny screen, do you care?

Remember, the American independence day is celebrating the declaration that we were free from of British rule. The country wasn't actually formed until May 29, 1790, when the constitution was signed. These states were not united until that point. This means the county won't really turn 250 until the year 2040. Sorry to bring facts into this emotional topic, but if you care to celebrate these historical events, you really should know what it is you are celebrating.

My mission today is to plan out an automatic, off grid watering system for our garden. - โœ… 305 gallon rain barrel - ๐Ÿ‘€ 12V water pump - โœ… Solar panel - โœ… Charge controller - ๐Ÿ‘€ 12V deep cell battery - ๐Ÿ‘€ Drip irrigation system - โœ… Water valve timers - ๐Ÿ”จ Box to contain it the electronics The plan is to have it work perpetually without relying on grid power or municipal water. It will also be repairable and maintainable. Powered by #solar and #rainwater. #SelfReliant #homestead

How do I use @kidwarp's vanilla bean paste? Today I used it in cream cheese clouds. image 1 lb butter, softened 1 lb cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup powdered swerve 4 tsp vanilla bean paste or extract Wisk them together with the stand mixer, starting slow and working up to max speed for 1 minute. Plop onto a cookie sheet in 1 Tbsp chunks, and freeze for an hour. They're done. Box 'em and put them in the fridge or freezer.

I think "Videoรผberwachung" might be my favorite German word. Even if you don't know the language, you can probably still figure out what it means. View quoted note โ†’ Related: I'm also enjoying attempting to read posts in German even though my vocabulary is like a hundred words. After I read it and form a hypothesis on what it might say, I'll use some tool to translate it and see how far off I was and fill in the words I didn't know. It's a fun way to try to learn a new language. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

If you want to introduce someone to the ideals that: - technology should benefit people, rather than to exploit them - information should be free instead of being controlled by gatekeepers and - privacy is better than mass surveillance Buy them a copy of the novella "Connection Timeout". The author (Rek2) is the real deal. While the story is fiction, it's setting it not. The tools he talks about are real. They exist now. He got the tech and the ethos exactly right. From LoRa based mesh networks to the intrusion tools, the tactics and techniques, the mentality... it's all spot on. It's a great way to introduce friends and family to the ideas of freedom tech. It's not a lecture about what they should or should not be doing. It's a fun story about a hacker who is dismayed with the state of the world in 2030. Cameras don't just use facial recognition and gait; it got much more invasive. Boost this note to spread the message. #freedom #tech #FreedomTech #hackers
