Recipe Monday: Loaf Pound Cake: 3/4 cup butter 3/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel 3 eggs 1 1/4 cups sifted all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt Cream butter then gradually add sugar, creaming until light, about 6 minutes. Beat in vanilla and peel. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir in. Grease bottom only of 9x5x3-inch pan and then turn in batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until done. Cool in pan. Dust with confectioners sugar Merry Christmas nostr! Winter is a good time to remove dead limbs from your non bleeding trees. But for trees like oak and maple, you should wait until the spring.

Recipe Monday: Garden Pepper Boats: 3 medium green peppers 1/4 cup chopped onions 2 tablespoons butter 1 cup canned whole kernel corn or fresh cut corn. 1 medium tomato, chopped (3/4 cup) 1 tablespoon butter 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs Remove tops and seeds from peppers. Cut in half lengthwise. Cook peppers in boiling salted water 5 minutes and then drain. Cook onion in 2 tablespoons of butter until tender but not brown. Add corn, tomato, and Limas and then mix well. Season pepper shells with salt and pepper to taste. Fill peppers with vegetable mixture. Combine 1 tablespoon melted butter and bread crumbs then spread on top of peppers. Place in 10x6x1 1/2 baking dish. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes. Recipe Monday: Merry Christmas Wreath: 1 package of active dry yeast or 1 cake compressed yeast 1/4 cup water 1 cup milk, scalded 1/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup shortening 1 teaspoon salt 1 well-beaten egg 3 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour Soften active dry yeast in warm water or compressed yeast in lukewarm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Add softened yeast and egg. Gradually stir in flour to form a soft dough, then beat vigorously. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 2 hours. Grease a 10 inch ring mold, spread bottom with sugar fruit topping, then melt 2 tablespoons of butter, add 2 tablespoons light corn syrup and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Place halved candied cherries, cut side up and almonds on sugar mixture. Shape dough into small balls, then roll in melted butter and then place 2 rows deep into the pan. Let double. Bake in oven for 20 to 25 minutes at 400 degrees. Loosen then turn out quickly. Best served warm.
