I doubt modern men would be willing to marry many of the women their grandfathers and great-grandfathers were marrying, and they would be dismayed at how quickly women aged. There is a German phrase "Every child costs one tooth" and women where having 6 kids. You do the math. If everyone gets a wife, that means you have hardly any choice in which wife you get. Think about it.
