One frustrating thing about hardware or home improvement store websites is when you search for an item you're already fairly confident is a non-stock, order-only item.
Enter your search term and it brings back 300 results. Filter by "in stock at this store", and instead of just confirming your suspicions, it has to waste your time showing you 290 unrelated items because either they're in the same trade category or share one of the words in your search.

Had a part time job doing janitorial for a couple of local government offices. I bet one out of every three desks had a small space heater under it. Of course IT would probably laugh you right out of the building if you asked to connect a mining heater to their network.

I feel like ChatGPT is trying to impress me with its knowledge instead of helping me.
Goal: when someone transmits on their radio tuned to say 123.4567 MHz using a CTCSS tone of 156.7, the other radio receives the transmission and passes it on to an internet-connected device where I can hear it on my laptop, phone, etc.
My thought was an HT > patch cable > old Android running Zello app should be able to do this.
ChatGPT says I need to connect an SDR dongle to a Pi then run a bunch of code I don't understand. More code if you need it to auto-run at reboot or only rebroadcast the audio instead of constantly streaming the silence too, plus even more code to only rebroadcast transmissions that have the CTCSS tone.
Why does ChatGPT have an aversion to recommending anything with a GUI?
He brings up an interesting point about some members of Congress being unable to do their job on a congressman's salary.
Have you ever run across a rusty old tool that was used in an ancient technology? I don't know, something like porcelain or glass insulators for residential electrical wiring? That's basically how I view the US government. A creation for a time when the fastest mode of communication was a letter-carrier on a horse.
And it's funny how they talk out of both sides of their mouth. On the one hand, they want us to believe they're such great experts at digital security that we have no reason to fear our sensitive chats and emails being leaked through a government-mandated backdoor. Meanwhile, members of Congress have to ignore pollution caused by air travel, and keep flying between their district and DC because there's no confidence in this same government's capacity to facilitate secure, digital, remote-voting on legislation.

I don't know who at @Alby made the executive decision to change the mascot from a lovable bee to a silhouette resembling the gang of violent squatters who attempted to murder me last week for trying to mow my lawn. Not cool, bro. ๐คฃ

This may be good advice for V4V musicians and podcasters with fairly tame content but for those whose content is likely to get them suspended or shadow banned by big tech platforms, I'm not so sure.
Watching what happened to Gab from 2016 to 2020 (especially after one of their "users" shot up a synagogue in PA) made me question just how resilient and censorship-resistant it is to run your own website. Particularly troubling was the fact that it all happened during the administration of a supposedly free speech-friendly President.
My takeaway from being on Gab in those early years is that everybody's a 1A-supporter until they get a knock on the door from some bureaucrat or regulator, or their big tech account becomes the target of a coordinated shaming campaign by a deep-pocketed NGO.
This is why I'm hopeful for nostr. Sure there's still a reliance on domain names but it seems like the attack surface is a little more spread out.

Brain is fried and I'm out 15 sats but ppqai helped pop my raspberry pi cherry.
Not even sure I understand half of the steps or why they had to be done but it seems to be working. Guess it's not possible to access the Pi's desktop from my laptop's browser like I can with Start9?
Note to self: order one of those micro HDMI adapters because this headless stuff is a whole extra level of confusion.
