When you grow up with immigrant parents who never got the chance to get a good education, who earned the minimum salary working with their hands, whilst never going on vacation or buying anything for themselves, and who never complained about it because they were happy to be able to feed their kids, you naturally have less empathy for people who grew up in a country full of opportunities and who were fluent in the local language, and yet, who somehow put themselves in a terrible financial situation just because they didn't feel like working most jobs that were "below them" or because they couldn't handle the "humiliation" of downgrading their lifestyle after learning about what "success" looks like on social media. #orangebook #ImmigrantParents #WorkEthic #Privilege

One of the most common signs of arrogance and entitlement is to move to another country and expect that country to change for you. #orangebook #Arrogance #Entitlement #Immigration

People who have something to hide tend to suddenly distance themselves for no reason, but it's actually good news, you want to build relationships with people who have nothing to hide, these are the only ones that will last anyway. #orangebook #trust #transparency

It's actually very recommended that you keep "disappointing" those who never really wanted the best for you. #orangebook #DisappointingPeople #Self-respect #Boundaries

A lot of success in life boils down to how good you are at unapologetically ignoring all the things that won’t improve your life. #orangebook #Success #Priorities #Focus

Too many people who never learned to love themselves or who never experienced what life feels like in the healthiest version of themselves somehow think that "enjoying life" means destroying your health with short-term pleasure. #orangebook #SelfLove #Health #Pleasure

Most mental issues are actually physical health issues, but the problem of a confused mind is that it usually gets defensive when you suggest a few changes of daily habits. #orangebook #MentalHealth #PhysicalHealth #DailyHabits

I was once a big advocate of "helping people when no one else believes in them," but experience taught me that the kind of people who get back on track and take responsibility for where they are in life after getting some unexpected help once are extremely rare; in most cases, when people start believing that they are special, and that someone will help them no matter what, and they double down on their irresponsible decisions, and as time passes, you realize that you haven't been helping them at all, quite the opposite. I still hope to look back many years from now, realize that my help was actually a catalyst for greater positive change, and be proven wrong. #orangebook #HelpingOthers #PersonalGrowth #Responsibility

One of the saddest things in life is people who grew up without experiencing what it was like to have a loving family or a real friend, and who ended up living their adult years in very dysfunctional relationships that they deemed "normal." #orangebook #FamilyRelationships #Friendship #MentalHealth

People who couldn't marry well will keep warning you against marriages; people who couldn't invest well will keep warning you that everything is a scam; people who couldn't get what they want from life will keep warning you that you won't be able to do it either. Pessimism and cynicism are just common signs that you are failing in life. Don't get annoyed, and don't take it personally either. #orangebook #Marriage #Investment #LifeAdvice

It's ironic that a lot of smart people fail to live fulfilling lives precisely because they think too much; and they think too much because they lack two things: (1) the faith to believe in their own growth and (2) the courage to act when they feel scared. #orangebook #Fulfillment #Self-doubt #Action

You will appreciate listening to music so much more once you are a better musician; you will appreciate watching sports so much more once you are a better athlete; you will appreciate reading great novels so much more once you are a better writer; and you will appreciate living life so much more once you are a better person. #orangebook #Skill #Appreciation #Growth

Intelligence isn't about getting what you want, it's about getting what you need; most people will actually live their whole lives never noticing that so many of their "wants" are actually manufactured by other people. #orangebook #Intelligence #Needs

A great investment gives you the freedom to explore who you could be and go live your best life; if you have to spend most of your time monitoring numbers on a screen, you are anything but wealthy. #orangebook
