It's a day off from the mail trail today. Tomorrow too. I am thankful for it. I get to be home with my family and pets. Being out in the cold all day the past 5 days has tired me out. I noticed the waxing moon in the southwestern sky last evening. That was at 11 PM. When I went to fill my mom's outdoor wood boiler. I also filled a tote and small garbage can full of potting soil last evening. Annie has been planting seeds the past month for another season of Bean Brook Nursery. This will be our fourth. GM. 6AM. It's -22 on my thermometer. I went for a run in it last night. Noticed the waxing moon low in the southwestern sky. The wind blew strong out of the north. That was betweenr 7 and 8 AM. Afterwards I added oil to my mail jeep. In a matter of minutes the cold burned my gloveless hands. It's going to be an interesting day on the mail trail. It's supposed to stay way below zero today. GM 🔥 It's 1 degree out there. A fine snow gently falls. The mail jeep is warming up. They're saying it's going to hit 50 below tonight. We're gearing up for that. Last night I layed in the snow and looked up at the faint stars. It was during my workout. I was down to a T-shirt. I watched my breath rise into the air through the light of my headlamp. GM. I was out delivering until 7 last evening. It was a 12 hour day. Days after holidays are always tough. A father and son came in and fixed a toilet at the Post Office yesterday. I met the son years ago at Spring Lake boat landing. 8 years ago maybe. He was in his early teens. Homeschooled. He wasn't shy. Smart. Witty. As he passed by me yesterday he said, "I have never seen so many boxes in one place." I don't know if he recognized me or not. I am also their mailman. Doesn't matter. My first ice bath. I have been taking cold showers first thing every morning for the past 4 years. This was of course colder being immersed in ice water. I stayed in way too long for my first time. Roughly 15 minutes with a few minute break in the middle. Immersing my arms made it colder. Afterwards it took me an hour to warm up. I stood in 90 degree sun with a towel wrapped around me and shivered. I didn't think I was ever going to warm up. When I do it again it will only be 2 to 3 minutes to start out. #daily #health #icebath #countryliving

Good morning from the front of morning fire 100. It is 10 below out there at 8:30 AM. Three things I am thankful for. A warm bed. I woke up at 4:15 'AM. I layed there for 2 hours because it was warm. And because I could. I'm usually out of bed by 4:15 on a workday. I am thankful that my mom and Grandma are still alive. They live down the road from us. 4 miles to the east. I was there at 11 PM last night loading her outdoor wood boiler. I do it every evening. Sometimes I will step into the garage and say thank you to my Dad. The garage is pretty much the same since he passed 4 years ago. Maybe he's out there somewhere listening. Finally for the pets that are casually lying here. A cat in his cushion bed. GM. I need more grace than I thought. ~ Rumi Thankful for three things again this morning. 1 For my job. It gives me purpose. Keeps the bills paid. 2. The freedom to homeschool. To have my wife and kids at home and happy. 3. Bitcoin. For what it has taught me about money, myself, and how we fear change. That's all. I'm off to the mall trail in 20 minutes. It's 13 out there with a light blanket of fresh snow on the ground. I stepped in it barefoot when I set the ash bucket on the deck earlier. I have been laying in it in the evenings while doing stomach crunches. I never regret doing this. Something about the cold. Tomorrow is a day off. Monday too. We drive up to McGregor, Minnesota Monday to get a leg vice for Hayden (16 years old). It's for forging metal. It's got a leg on it. So it transfer the blows of the hammer into the ground.
