6 AM. GM. Back to the mail trail today. It's 26 out there. Snow and ice have been melting under the sun the past 4 days. Hopefully there'll be less ice and snow on roads, and mailboxes will start to grow taller again. Signing off from the front of Morning Fire 128. I hope you have a great day. 2.17.26 #gm #coffeechain image

Happy President's Day. America, in my opinion, still hasn't recovered from that day in Dallas in 1963. image

"Grades are a problem. On the most general level, they're an explicit acknowledgment that what you're doing is insufficiently interesting or rewarding for you to do it on your own. Nobody ever gave you a grade for learning how to play, how to ride a bicycle, or how to kiss. One of the best ways to destroy love for any of these activities would be through the use of grades, and the coercion and judgment they represent. Grades are a cudgel to bludgeon the unwilling into doing what they don't want to do, an important instrument in inculcating children into a lifelong subservience to whatever authority happens to be thrust over them." ~ Derrick Jensen #quotes #school #homeschool #parenting

Good morning 🔥 My last day off from the mail trail. Google says it's supposed to be sunny and in the 40's. 10 degrees above average. It's been gorgeous weather the past 4 days off. Sunny, above average warmth, birds starting to sing spring songs. Owls call at night. Flowing water opening up ice in front of culverts on the Bean and Mackey cricks. No big plans today so far (nobody awake yet). Just BE here with my family, pets, pasture pals, and the going ons in Wild Nature before back to the grind. I hope you have a great day. My neighbor, whose gone now, once told me something I haven't forgotten. It was about his grandpa. Who used to deliver mail by horse in Minnesota.. Towards the end of his career he did use an automobile though. He was working during the transition from horses to automobiles. Anyway, his grandpa told him once he bought a tractor to do the farm work he ran out of time. There was never enough time. One of the promises of Bitcoin is we will get our time back. I'm skeptical. A lot of inner work has to happen before we get our time back. Atleast that's what I am learning reading the philosophers I am reading. I remain open to the possibilities. #time #soul #philosophy image

I got into a conversation with a neighbor yesterday. This was face to face. More and more rare nowadays. She's a mom. One of her sons is the same age as our oldest son: 26. I coached both of them in Little League. I feel old saying that. LOL. We got on the subject of housing. Both our sons were in the market to buy a house around here. They both came up shorthanded. They couldn't afford them. Like most areas housing became unaffordable for people just starting out during Covid. Housing and land prices more than doubled. I tried to explain why I thought this happened. I don't think I did a very good job. I'm going to try again here. Partly in the spirit of becoming a better writer and thinker. Like Kurt Vonnegut said, "If you can't write clearly, you probably don't think nearly as well as you think you do." So here we go. I think those with money have to find a place to park their cash. So they use real estate as a "store of value." They can make money off their money buying real estate. If they keep it in a savings it would lose value due to inflation. For years our family did this. I knew better. When I was single, in my late teens and early 20's, I thought I could get off the hamster wheel by saving money. So I owned mutual funds through Vanguard in my late teens and early 20''s. My money made more money in Vanguard than our local bank. Then I read Ishmael, quit working, gave up on our current system, and embarked on a learning journey to understand why why why. Back to Vonnegut again: "Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?' Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land; Man got to tell himself he understand” Back to our sons and store of value. I told her my hope is Bitcoin starts to make housing more affordable around here again. Why? Because those with money can make a lot more money off their money buying Bitcoin. It's a better"store of value." So they'll pull their money out of real estate and park it in Bitcoin. And maybe, just maybe, housing will not be used so much as a savings account and more for utility. 🤞 (A current photo from our neighborhood. The Bean Brook at dusk.) #bitcoin #realestate #money image

GM 🔥 Feeling thankful for Nostr this Sunday morning. I have accounts on the major Big Tech platforms. There's just something about Nostr that's different at the feeling level. Someone has probably articulated it. Anyway, I hope you have a great day. Morning Fire 126 2.15.26 #gm #Nostr #coffeechain image

Customers will occasionally ask me about Bitcoin on the mail route. Because I write about it on social media.. The other day one offered to give me some of his money. I would invest it for him. And we would split the profits fifty fifty. I told him, "No, bitcoin doesn't work that way." "It's like the stock market, isn't it?" "No," I said "It's simpler. You buy what you are comfortable with and hold on to it for as long as possible. He gave a hesitating, "ok...." "No researching companies and taking advice from financial advisors. Bitcoin is simple. You will double your money in roughly 18 months. You want to hold it for at least 4 years, preferably 10. But once you hold it for any significant amount of time you will never want to get out of it. That's how it's gone for me. I will be in it 4 years this July. You never forget when you get into it." "We'll talk more about it later." He laughingly said. And I was off to make my way down the mail trail. #bitcoin #writing #countryliving

An eye is meant to see things. The soul is here for its own joy. A head has one use: For loving a true love. Feet: To chase after. Love is for vanishing into the sky. The mind, for learning what men have done and tried to do. Mysteries are not to be solved: The eye goes blind when it only wants to see why. A lover is always accused of something. But when he finds his love, whatever was lost in the looking comes back completely changed. ~ Rumi #poetry #soul #Rumi

My wife and daughter paint these. My daughter is 13 and homeschooled. My wife a stay at home mom. This wouldn't be possible without Bitcoin. Feeling blessed. #Bitcoin #proofofwork #soul #homeschool #family image
