Node runner once again. BTC. XMR. Freedom maxi. Say no to CBDCs and digital ID.
On a self-hosting spree right now. Karakeep is especially useful. I'm using that shit 24/7.
This is a super cool thing you've coded here @daniele! It's literally exactly the thing I was looking for and you made it. Gonna write a tutorial helping people set up their own, I really like this project :) image
Switched my Lightening address to xanny@cake.cash gonna try this out, seems cool, don't even have to manage channels and you can swap between on-chain and LN in the app. My reading of their docs seems to suggest Cake's LN implementation is roughly as non-custodial as Phoenix, where you own your keys but they manage the infra. Needs NWC though that's the only big thing that seems to be missing.
Okay this is really cool... we can now generate on-chain taproot addresses derived from our Nostr keys and do on-chain zaps from within Nostr clients. Woah. I love how whenever I come back to Nostr it has a bunch of cool new features added. This one in particular fits perfectly with Nostr. image
Considering a Blockstream Jade Plus or a BitBox2 Nova to replace my Trezor. Anyone got either one? Do you like it? Would you recommend it?
You can't make this shit up... Right after I posted this glazing Phoenix, I opened Phoenix on my phone and it just closed my channel. Gives me no explanation why... image View quoted note →
So since I'm spinning up a new Bitcoin node I'm also looking at running my own Lightning node again too. When I last did this years ago, it was fun running a full relay node but it was also a constant source of headaches managing liquidity and channels and everything else. I've noticed that Phoenix now has phoenixd where you can use that as a backend for your own self-custodial Lightning wallet. They run the backend infra but you still hold the keys. I use Phoenix on my phone and it works fucking great tbh, it's the only non-custodial Lightning wallet I've used that's never caused me any problems (touch wood...) Anyone got any experience using phoenixd as a backend and if so what's your stack? Looks like it's pretty new so everything is still adding support, but LNbits just added support for it and Alby Hub too. Trying to work out exactly how to structure everything so I can have a Lightning wallet + NWC run off my own box, ideally would like to use it from my phone to send and receive sats via Lightning in person as well. But maybe it'd make more sense to keep using Phoenix on my phone for that? Not sure yet.

"Above all else, we need to brutalise the size of the state. I mean brutalise. Like nothing that has ever been seen. A public sector bonfire that is visible from space - that is what Restore Britain would do." This Rupert Lowe guy seems pretty based.

"What’s reality? I don’t know. When my bird was looking at my computer monitor I thought, ‘That bird has no idea what he’s looking at.’ And yet what does the bird do? Does he panic? No, he can’t really panic, he just does the best he can. Is he able to live in a world where he’s so ignorant? Well, he doesn’t really have a choice. The bird is okay even though he doesn’t understand the world. You’re that bird looking at the monitor, and you’re thinking to yourself, ‘I can figure this out.’ Maybe you have some bird ideas. Maybe that’s the best you can do." - Terry A. Davis
