“The hard part is lifting capital controls, which becomes unthinkable the moment they’re instituted. Who wants to keep funds in a country which confuses bank accounts with a bear trap?” -The Mandibles

On Democracy THE ROAD TO SERFDOM - Hayek, 1944 “Democracy is essentially a means, a utilitarian device for safeguarding internal peace and individual freedom. As such it is by no means infallible or certain. Nor must we forget that there has often been much more cultural and spiritual freedom under an autocratic rule than under some democracies - and it is at least conceivable that under the government of a very homogeneous and doctrinaire majority democratic government might be as oppressive as the worst dictatorship.” image

Steven, Paper Bitcoin Summer is not at all about Plebs misunderstanding equity. It’s the idea that we don’t believe all these entities hold the assets they say they hold. Your goal should be to continually prove us wrong if you can. View quoted note →

Hayek writing in 1956 on the nature of Conservatism seems relevant today: “It is true, of course, that in the struggle against the believers in the all-powerful state the true liberal(original 19th century sense) must sometimes make common cause with the conservative, and in some circumstances, as in contemporary Britain, he has hardly any other way of actively working for his ideals. But true liberalism is still distinct from conservatism, and there is danger in the two being confused. Conservatism, though a necessary element in any stable society, is not a social program; in its paternalistic, nationalistic, and power-adoring tendencies it is often closer to socialism than true liberalism; and with its traditionalistic, anti-intellectual, and often mystical propensities it will never, except in short periods of disillusionment, appeal to the young and all those others who believe that some changes are desirable if this world is to become a better place.”
