There is a conversation to be had about the "success" that my guy here is talking about using Samourai vs Wasabi. Samourai famously publicly thumbed their nose at the law because they were confident they were working inside it. So the "Justice Dept" changed the rules and took them out. A lot of integrity there. It's also idealistic and idealism is by nature a little stupid. Wasabi otoh proactively overcomplied, saving their business and their devs. We all lombasted them with vitrol at the time. However in retrospect, it was strategically the better move from a business survival, "not go to jail" perspective. IOW, it was pragmatic, not idealistic. Regardless of what anybody thinks of Wasabi CJ technically (and there's lots of room for criticism) from an operational standpoint, they were able to stay in business and make progress decentralizing CJ coordination because they were pragmatic and prepared for the worst case scenario. So not being *public, vocal idealists*, they were able to preserve the specific instance of their implementation and keep their devs out of jail. It's an interesting strategic comparison. Samourai didn't do anything wrong and everybody was surprised the Justice Dept went after them. even fucking Fincen said what they were doing wasn't illegal. and it's GOOD for **open source free software** to have a funding model. unless you're already fiat wealthy, your pet foss project isn't going to get anywhere without a sustainable source of funds. oh and btw and only a TOTAL FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT would try to capitalize on someone else's misfortune for online brownie points. this is why KYCed coins are shitcoins. they are not censorship resistant. good luck telling the men with guns "that 2nd address wasn't mine!" Monero fixes this (IF you don't buy kyc) View quoted note →

people CAN do what they want. mostly what they want is to be safe and have convenient pleasures. please don't pretend that custodial solutions are no problem because "people can do what they want" View quoted note →
