Valve seems to be the only company that didn’t go full corporate like every other big tech company founded by a group of nerds. A lot of those companies went downhill in terms of management (even while making tons of money) because the nerds convinced themselves they knew nothing about running a business, so they either tried to become managers overnight or hired Ivy League frat guys to do it for them. I wonder if there’s any hope that executives might see this and realize it could be better to create a more open environment for competent people.

Conversa real que tive no trabalho esses dias. De algum modo o assunto caiu em universidade e eu brinquei que o jeito fácil de sobreviver é dormindo na aula. Um dos fulanos riu da piada, mas tentou fazer outra em cima: "o cara fica pagando pra não estudar, mano". Na hora eu nem percebi o que ele quis dizer, só respondi: "não era privada, era pública". O corno ficou de cara fechada comigo o dia inteiro. Eu, sendo o autista que sou, só fui perceber depois o que tinha acontecido. Depois descobri que ele se formou numa uniesquina. Nem imaginei que alguém pudesse sentir inveja disso, até porque ocupamos cargos semelhantes.

I just can’t take anyone seriously when they use those exaggerated expressions in thumbnails. This trend has been around for years, but I’ll never get used to it. It’s especially annoying when I’m watching something with a more intellectual tone, only to see the creators still using those goofy faces on their thumbnails
