The Cypherpunks were not paranoid for the sake of paranoia. They saw patterns that have repeated throughout history: When technology and power become concentrated, those in power use them to monitor, control, and punish. It almost always happens under the guise of "security," "efficiency," or "the common good." Are we naive in the West? Yes, to a large extent. We have lived in a period that is historically extremely good (after 1945, and especially after 1989). Freedom, the rule of law, and privacy have felt like a given. Because of this, we build systems as if this condition is permanent: We accept massive data collection because "it's convenient." We allow companies and states to build infrastructure for total oversight (digital IDs, Central Bank Digital Currencies, AI surveillance, social credit-like systems). We believe that "our" institutions are different from those that have abused power in the past. This is naive. History shows that democracies are not immune. Surveillance and control grow slowly, during crises, and are rarely rolled back. People simply get used to it. Do we think history has stopped repeating itself? Many in the West behave as if they believe it has—that "this time is different" because we are enlightened, have human rights, and good intentions. That is a dangerous illusion. Power corrupts. Technology merely amplifies it. The difference now is that surveillance can become total and cheap. In the past, you needed a massive apparatus. Now, it can be done with algorithms, cameras, phones, and data. What does it look like in 20 years? Two realistic main scenarios: 1. The Control Scenario. Digital surveillance becomes the norm. Your money is programmable. Your identity is centralized. Opinions and behavior can be sanctioned automatically. Freedom exists formally, but in practice, it is constrained by systems that are "just enforcing the rules." Most people won't notice until it's too late, because it happens gradually. 2. The Backlash Scenario More people realize what is at stake. Privacy technology (strong encryption, decentralized systems, anonymous networks) becomes more widespread. Some countries or regions push hard for privacy, while others push hard for control. A technological and political divide emerges. The Cypherpunks' point was never that the world must become dystopian. It was that it can become so very quickly if we build systems as though everyone in power will always be benevolent. Update on the mining and node life. I run my bitaxe solo. Hoping for that sweet honeypot. I got a core node running. No S9’s running atm. To warm still. I really need to need the heat before i can run them. But, fall is comming. Got 2 machines mining cpu and gpu. XMR and Ergo. They are chugging along. One is drawing 330W, and that might be a bit much, but HEY! its fun. Been thinking about a third. For a home server project. I have been reading about the knots vs core stuff. Trying to form some toughts on it. Nice that the coldcard incident dosent really say anything about Bitcoin. I can keep up the node and mining as i have for the past year and a half thereabout. Coldcard scandal is all about people. Me included. And all of our faults and biases. We are all idiots. Found an approriate tank to start my «Bitcoin mining gasifier ultimo sats machine V.001» Yes, that is the name of the project. And the V.001 does indeed insinuate that i expect to have to make atleast 100 attempts. I cut the top off to remove a rubber baloon inside. This used to be an expansion tank for a central heating system. I welded a 140mm steel tube to the «lid» to act as the fire tube. About as far as i can get today. Next is the grate and a hatch at the bottom for ash. Onwards! #bitcoin #mining #sovreign #energy #project

Making some progress on my off grid mining project. I got my first solar panel, battery and regulator, all for under 100$. Just missing an inverter 12V - 230V. Realized these are quite expensive, as i need one with pure sinus and not the cheaper ones with modified sinus. Looking into options, like running directly from 12V. Need som inverter for the 5V components, but i will have a lot less energy loss then going 12 - 230 and back down to 12/5. Sourcing material and stuff for my gasifier. Been enjoying som offline time. Very nice. Proper reset. Fleed into the mountains from 30+ degrees this weekend. Nice and cool up here. Took all 3 kidz (4, 6 and 8) into the sauna, they held out pretty well. 8 year old is getting quite hardy, sat on the top bench with me for about 15 minutes. Got a couple weeks left at work before i get 3 weeks off. First thing im doing when vacation starts is a 100 hour fast. Cant wait. What else? Still mining monero on my machine, merge mining Tari (xtm) on the side. Solomining for Bitcoin on my Gamma. Heating needs are 0, so all old S9’s are off. Been looking into a fun project. Building a wood gasifier to run a generator to charge a small battery, to mine bitcoin. Think i need a small battery inbetween to make sure i get good sinus and frequency. I got the machine to run in its new house. Had to change the CMOS battery. Wonder if the previous owner got rid of it because of such a minor thing. It came with a 1 TB HDD, and i had a 500GB HDD in there before. Was hoping for a SATA, ill manage. But1,5TB should allow for some more blocks to fit. Anyway. It starts and runs. Will hook up a screen tomorrow, and if it is truly alive, then it will become what all machines dream of from the day they are built.
