My family tells of a great-great grandfather who farmed in rural Indiana. He made his mortgage payments in person, in cash, at the local bank in the nearby small town. He surely knew the tellers and was known in the community. After many years, he paid off the house… only to have it seized by the bank years later: he could not prove he had made the payments, and the bank didn’t keep accurate records.
Theft is abhorrent, violating, a sick disfiguring of a man’s past and story. I cannot imagine the heartache the victims endure, whether their residence is sacked for heirlooms or property is seized or bitcoin stolen: a treasury of work and time gets erased from their horizon.
Yet life goes on, must go on. God still has a plan for ultimate, final judgement and salvation. Much good surrounds us, much good is left to be done, and much evil left to fight.
