Imagine a mother being able to find out what happened to her missing daughter. Picture her receiving a small kit in the mail, as simple as the ancestry tests many people use for fun. She would swab her cheek, send it back, and then wait – not for 19 years, but perhaps just a few weeks. Then, one day, she gets a notification. There’s a match. Here we imagine the healing that could be possible for the families of Eritrea’s missing.
How Isaias Afwerki and The PFDJ Helped Bankrupt Ethiopia’s Economy On July 28, Abiy Ahmed announced Ethiopia’s economic reform plans, which followed the Ethiopian National Bank’s new monetary policy released on July 9. The country released a series of reforms that were closely monitored and guided by the IMF, and today, the IMF and Ethiopia have agreed to a USD 3.4 billion bailout. Among the changes was the implementation of quantitative easing (QE) and quantitative tightening (QT) to control the country’s inflation and monetary policy. #eritrea🇪🇷 #ethiopia #finance #economics
🚨Is Isaias Afwerki Shoring Up his Defenses for Yet Another War in East Africa? Russia has been the biggest arms seller in the region over the past decade and a huge contributor to the destabilization and ongoing wars on the continent. As recently as April 2, 2024, Russia has held military training on the coast of Massawa, #Eritrea further cementing their plans of a naval base on the Red Sea coastline. image
🚨 Isaias Afwerki Cancels All Flights To and From Ethiopia In a new shocking turn of events, Isaias Afwerki ordered the cancellation of all Ethiopian Airlines flights into and out of Eritrea. Eritrea achieved its independence from Ethiopia in 1993, marking a landmark day in history. After years of abject colonialism and a brutal fight for self-determination, Eritrea had officially achieved freedom from its oppressive neighbor. However, unfettered independence never came to be. Instead, for the past 32 years, the country has been trapped in a totalitarian prison state, deprived of many fundamental civil liberties and human rights such as freedom of speech, press, and peaceful assembly. Eritrea must fight for actual independence and freedom for its citizens. It must overhaul its oppressive policies and implement measures to protect dissenting voices, public debate, and civil society. It must also strive to create economic independence. A strong and prosperous Eritrea is only achievable through genuine independence in its fullest sense. It is only through the empowerment of its citizens and the guarantee of fundamental rights and liberties that Eritrea will truly be free. image
