The biggest retirement expense nobody models: Regret. Quit too early and every market drop feels existential. Stay too long and you traded years for money you didn’t need. The goal isn’t maximum wealth. It’s enough margin that neither mistake can ruin you.
Where you live can shape your career. But once work becomes optional, the equation changes. Where you live shapes your leisure, your health, and your happiness. A great place to build a career isn’t necessarily a great place to live your life.

My favorite luxury? Not needing the next paycheck. That’s the exit plan.

At $1.3M, a 1% market move is ~$13,000. That’s more than I invest in an average month. There’s a point where building wealth stops being mostly about adding money. It becomes about not interrupting the compounding.

Sunday reminder: You don’t need to hate your job to want an exit plan. I’m grateful for the income. I’m also investing ~$140k/year so one day I won’t need it. Gratitude and ambition can coexist.

The goal was never to be rich. It was to make “I can’t afford to quit” disappear from my vocabulary.

Conviction is not the same as concentration. You can believe deeply in an asset without letting one outcome control your entire future. Diversification is key.

Every $100/month you permanently cut from spending lowers your FIRE number by about $34,000 at a 3.5% withdrawal rate. Saving money doesn’t just grow the portfolio. It shrinks the finish line.

Every raise can buy you a nicer lifestyle or a shorter career. I’m choosing the shorter career.
