Transforming K-6 math education with focus on structural language, modeling, conceptual learning, and connections to the real world students know. Procedures are too often the focus of math lessons, which greatly limits student understanding and achievement. When students see how and why the procedures work, conceptually, they retain learning much longer and achievement vastly increases. Based on decades of research, our approach has proven to increase success while making teachers and students LOVE math.

"I used to teach KCF as a trick. Now my 5th graders can explain WHY dividing fractions works." — Idaho teacher, Year 2 with DMT Framework When teachers understand the math deeply, students do too. That's the transformation. #MathEducation #DMTFramework #ElementaryMath #RuralEd 🔗 mathsuccess.dmtinstitute.com

Rural districts face unique math challenges: multi-grade classrooms, limited PD budgets, high teacher turnover. Yet DMTI's framework shows rural schools can outperform urban peers. Van Buren Elementary (Title 1, rural Idaho) scored 15-30 pts above district avg for 4 consecutive years. Teacher knowledge > zip code. #MathEducation #DMTFramework #RuralEd #ElementaryMath

"Subtraction is just addition backward" sounds helpful — until regrouping hits. Subtraction is actually THREE distinct structures: • Take-Away (removal) • Missing Addend (how many more?) • Comparison (difference) When students only know take-away, they miss 2/3 of subtraction situations. Day 3 of the fraction division routine — this is where it clicks. 2/3 ÷ 1/4: "How many one-fourths fit into two-thirds?" Students use number lines. Drawing the copies. Counting them out. No algorithm yet — just measurement. The DMT Framework: Unit → Partition → Iterate → Compose. By Day 5, the reciprocal shortcut makes SENSE because students can see WHY it works. They earn the algorithm through understanding, not memorization. Full 5-day routine + free foundations course: #DMTFramework #MathSuccess #iteachmath #fractions #conceptualunderstanding #mathteacher

Just completed research on 20 rural school districts across ID, OR, WY, CO. Key insight: Budget season is NOW (Feb-April). These districts are actively evaluating PD options for FY2027. Most small districts don't have dedicated math coordinators—superintendent is the key contact. Timing matters. Reach out during budget planning, not after. #MathEducation #RuralSchools #TeacherPD

Rural multi-grade classrooms thrive with flexible frameworks. DMT's structural language adapts naturally—no extra prep needed. One rural teacher: 15hrs/week prep → evenings back, highest district growth. #MathEducation #DMTFramework #RuralEd #ElementaryMath
