🇷🇴 #Romania - 🇷🇺 #Russia: A Russian Geran-2 drone struck an apartment building in the city of Galați earlier this morning during a wave of drone attacks towards Ukrainian cities. Two people were reportedly injured in the incident and taken to hospital, with the impact followed by an explosion and a fire breaking out inside an apartment on the 10th floor of the building. Romania’s Ministry of Defence (MApN) later stated that despite two F-16 fighter jets and a military helicopter tracking the drone when it passed towards the Romanian border, it eventually "disappeared" from radar. The ministry added on later that the drone could have been shot down, but officials allegedly "chose not to" intercept it in order to avoid causing further damage during the interception process. 🇮🇱 #Israel: Israeli authorities are reportedly set to be added to a UN blacklist of parties accused of conflict-related sexual violence, according to Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon. The blacklist forms part of the UN Secretary-General’s annual report on abuses committed during armed conflicts and includes both state and non-state actors accused of rape and other forms of abuse against detainees or civilians during war. Following the reported decision, Danon announced that Israel would cut contact with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling the move “outrageous.” The UN previously stated that there was credible information regarding abuse committed by Israeli security forces against Palestinian detainees, while also claiming inspectors had been denied access to detention facilities. Following the reports, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, as well as Israel's Foreign Ministry, wrote on X that the classification was “an attempt to create a fake symmetry between Israel and the real sexual atrocities committed by Hamas". 🇩🇪 #Germany: A German court has sentenced former Red Army Faction (RAF) member Daniela Klette to 13 years in prison after she spent more than three decades on the run before being arrested in Berlin on February 26th of last year. Klette, 67, was sentenced by the regional court in Verden on yesterday over a series of armed robberies carried out between 1999 and 2016 alongside two other former RAF members who remain at large. The RAF, also known as the Baader-Meinhof Group, was a far-left militant organization responsible for bombings, kidnappings, assassinations, and robberies across Germany between the 1970s and 1990s. Prosecutors said the robberies were carried out to finance the former militants while they remained in hiding after the group’s dissolution.
