I love Alonso. I'm constantly checking X for updates on his free agency, and I even liked Fielder. But if this is true, reminding teams about Fielder's deal might not be a strong foundation for negotiation. Fielder was younger and had better numbers when he signed, and it's probably one of the best examples of using caution when signing long-term deals, especially for first basemen.
