»Die Freiheit ist unteilbar, und wenn auch nur einer versklavt ist, dann sind alle nicht frei.« John F. Kennedy
The bitaxes said they needed more power. Since space is an issue, I modified the garden table. They’re humming contentedly.
»Denn nichts ist schwerer und nichts erfordert mehr Charakter, als sich in offenem Gegensatz zu seiner Zeit zu befinden und laut zu sagen: Nein.« Kurt Tucholsky
Day two is over. I’ve settled into a routine of two meals a day: breakfast at 9 a.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. My calorie intake was fine yesterday and today, at just under 2,500. For breakfast, I had yesterday’s leftovers topped with cheese, and for dinner, 400 grams of beef meatloaf. I’m not getting hungry at all. Everything feels good, though I do feel a little hypoglycaemic in the afternoon. I have plenty of energy for exercise, too.
Starting today, I’m embarking on a little personal experiment and will document it here for myself and anyone else who might be interested. Ever since I read Fiat Food (by Matthew Lysiak) last year, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of trying a diet based entirely on animal products. Since last December, I’ve changed my diet and have been focusing mainly on protein and fat. I’ve used butter and beef fat for cooking, but I’ve still baked and eaten bread, used plant-based fats here and there, and generally eaten plenty of vegetables to meet my calorie goal. The main reason I cut back on carbs was to hit my daily calorie goal of 2,500, which meant a deficit of 300 to 400 calories for me. I started this whole thing because I wanted to lose some fat. I’ve always been athletic, but over the last year I’d reached a point where I wasn’t entirely satisfied with myself anymore. Since then, I’ve lost about 6 kilos and shed roughly 5% body fat (currently between 14% and 15%). My muscle mass has only decreased slightly. Over the weekend, I was at an event, and during a break I got into a conversation with someone who has been eating only meat and animal products for years. He listed the benefits it has brought him, and that was the push I needed. Alright, here we go. This morning I made 1 kg of ground beef with five eggs (300 g) and 400 g of crumbly cream cheese. That comes to about 2,750 calories, with 300 g of protein and 170 g of fat. There’s no way I’ll be able to eat all of this in one day. I had maybe a third of it for breakfast, and at 2:00 p.m. I’m still far from feeling hungry. This is something that’s currently making me worry about whether I’ll be able to reach my calorie goal. Since I’d otherwise be sabotaging my exercise routine, this could be a reason to end the experiment. Thanks to the dietary changes I’ve made since December, I’ve already gotten rid of my low moods and other issues. I’m not entirely sure what to expect, but I’m curious to see if—and how—things will change.

Ayn Rand, Hymne
