This is the heart of the chicken coop automation (work in progress pic). The goal is to go on a road trip for a week or two, and nothing dies. This box manages three separate networks, including a backup LTE connection. It runs Home Assistant and Frigate DVR. All the sensors and feeding water door automations either run over Z-wave or Wi-Fi. So far rock solid, I’ll get into the details in LINUX Unplugged this week.

We have the chickens moved out into their own run for just over two weeks now. Fully automated with Home Assistant, and monitored with Frigate DVR. It’s a great setup. What’s really mind blowing is just how fast they grow. They seem so big now, but they’re not done yet!

How are they already so cool?

Our sick chick seems to be doing better. And the other chicks are thriving. Still giving velociraptor tho..

Rounding out week two with baby chicks, and they've easily doubled in size. But two of our chicks seem to be struggling and are sick. We're nursing them and have them separated from the others, but they can't stand or walk very well. Hoping they pull through. We have them on electrolytes and meds, so hopefully in a day or so, we will see an improvement.

Mind blown by the Meshtastic node density around here! Just staring at the map and regretting not bringing a node to Victoria Island. I could've easily messaged my home across the water. Now that I've got Meshtastic integrated with Home Assistant, the possibilities are wild: private mesh channels to trigger automations remotely.
