Introducing ESSA-SID1 from Hasky Labs. SID [ Substrate Intelligence Device ] ESSA-AI is exploring how an experimental, non-LLM-centered computational SELF could observe and reason through physical sensors. SID1 is its first substrate intelligence device concept: four synchronized hydrophones for water-domain localization, a separately coupled three-axis geophone for ground vibration, and an internal inertial reference for rejecting movement of the instrument. The aim is local sensing and local inference. Satellite, cellular, or radio may relay a result, but they are not required to calculate it. The attached image is an AI-generated industrial-design concept, not a manufactured, certified, or field-validated device. SID1-A starts smaller: one verified hydrophone channel, then a controlled four-channel experiment.

The early designed

Kizami 刻み — day one of the real build. Started the morning about to spend €369 on FPGA dev boards. Ended it having worked out I didn't need them: timecode accuracy comes from the oscillator, not the logic. A €2.46 temperature-compensated RTC does the job. BOM dropped from €93 to €23 a unit. Then wrote the SMPTE LTC encoder. ltcdump decodes it clean — 248 frames, continuous, no drops.
