Our second Bitcoin meetup took place on March 23, 2023, with an impressive turnout of around 20 attendees hailing from various locations including Detroit, Toledo, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, and Indiana. A standout presentation was delivered by Blake Kaufman, a dedicated college student currently enrolled at MSU, who introduced his groundbreaking project: the Blitz Wallet. This Bitcoin-exclusive wallet, designed by Blake, aims to simplify transactions without any associated fees. Blake's hour-long presentation captivated the audience with its structure, clarity, and wealth of information. He also welcomed and addressed questions and suggestions from the attendees. Emphasizing the concept of "banking the unbanked," Blake highlighted the staggering statistic that one billion people worldwide remain unbanked in 2024, underscoring Bitcoin's potential to address this issue. Blake's ultimate goal is to make his wallet easily accessible to people worldwide, aligning with his vision of financial inclusivity. One notable feature Blake is working on - that I found very, very impressive - is a gift wallet option. Which would allow users to instantly share a pre-loaded wallet simply by sending a text message—to anyone. I can already see bitcoiners sending these to a taxi driver, server, a friend for a birthday, Christmas, etc. How many times have we tried to have a friend or newbie download a wallet and we say, “Download a wallet and I’ll send ya 10 bucks in bitcoin”? Sometimes they do, and sometimes they just won’t. For whatever reason. But I think with a PRE-LOADED wallet it would be much, much easier. I am very much looking forward to this. Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a meal at Five Star Pizza and continued discussions at The Colon American Legion, fostering a sense of community among Bitcoin enthusiasts. I’m not techie. Just a freedom loving pizza guy, that was already pretty libertarian. I’ve read a bunch of books the last 4 years going down the BTC rabbit holes(s). The Bitcoin Standard Hard Money You Can’t F With Check Your Financial Privilege Confessions of an Economic Hitman Softwar Quite a few others. Tons of hours of podcasts. Bitcoin Conferences. Really can’t read Mastering Bitcoin (just way out of my depth) Any suggestions of books/podcasts that are a bit more techie, without going crazy deep?

Honestly an ROI is nice, but freeeom is what BTC is all about. I’m trying to have a few Friends read “Check Your Financial Privilege”, by Gladstein. The Bitcoin Standard is a must read. Here in the west, it’s bad enough with the Fed and central bank. But I think of one can get people to understand how important BTC is for the 3rd world, it might be an easier sell.

I finally pulled the trigger and had a bitcoin meetup a couple months ago. I’m going to try to make it at least 4 a year. Our location, here in Colon, MI. (Yes, I said Colon) 3 hrs E of Chicago, 2 hrs W of Detroit, 3 hrs N of Indy, 1.5 hrs S of Grand Rapids, should make us a good location for people in those areas to meet here.
