Wind is accelerating. Can the permits keep up?
Europe installed 8.8 GW of new wind capacity in the first half of 2026, up 30% from a year earlier. WindEurope's September outlook forecasts 24 GW for the full year.
Permitting volumes fell in several major markets. Grid connections and policy decisions will help determine whether that growth continues.
The turbines are only part of the story. Projects also need permission to build and a connection that gets their electricity to customers.
