i hate stinkbugs, but i just watched in real time a little tactic it uses to evade my attention and get into cover that i'd heard it do but never saw. it's flying around near the ceiling randomly making its irritating buzzing noise and me watching it trying to swat it with my electic zapper racket, and missing every time, and then i'm watching it and suddenly it closes its wings and falls straight to the ground "thock" and "where the fuck did you go goddammit!" and i realised that i have used this exact same tactical move in escape and evasion situations in the past. it's actually a tactical pattern used in Systema but they never bothered to give it a name. so i'm gonna give it the name "the stinkbug drop". i also developed this pattern in several fast paced FPS games, War, Inc. was one where it was a very useful pattern. under fire from multiple directions, run around like a loon randomly watching for a cover position and then get behind it and drop. precisely the same move on a 2d semi-3d context. buzzing around like a stinkbug, bullets flying past as two or three enemies are trying to track an impossibly disorganised target and then bam "where'd he go?" and then i kept in my memory as i was scanning back and forth where the enemies were, they are all standing there out in the open "blam blam blam" headshot headshot headshot. i hate stinkbugs but i gotta respect this one trick.
