📍Tokenising Gold 🪎 on the Blockchain: The Financial Conduct Authority is drawing up rules for tokenized gold as part of a broader digital asset strategy to preserve London’s dominance in global gold trading. The regulator is consulting financial institutions on how tokenized gold, which represents ownership of physical bullion, could be used as collateral in wholesale markets. The initiative aligns with a wider U.K. push to digitize financial markets, which officials say could add tens of billions of pounds to annual economic output as London faces growing competition from China in gold trading. In May this year, The FCA and the Bank of England revealed plans for tokenization and modernization of their financial markets in May. HM Treasury laid out a 12-month plan in July to speed up the digitization of the country’s financial markets, which it projects could boost annual economic output by 33 billion pounds ($44 billion).

📍BIP-110 has dominated Bitcoin discourse for months. Most of it has been argued on ideology, and spam versus free markets, one camp of developers against another. What’s been largely missing is evidence. 📍Late last year, the #JBBA published a peer-reviewed study that measured the very thing this fight is about: ➡️ What Ordinals and inscriptions actually did to the #Bitcoin network. ✍🏽 Alexander Wiedenmann and Andre Guettler (Ulm University) didn’t speculate. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 UK and U.S. deepen regulatory cooperation on stablecoins and digital assets ➡️ The 13th official meeting of the UK-U.S. Financial Regulatory Working Group (FRWG) was hosted by His Majesty’s Treasury (HM Treasury ) in London on July 8, 2026. ➡️ Senior officials from HM Treasury and U.S. Department of the Treasury were joined by representatives from the Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System , U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission , Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) , Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Participants expressed views on issues in their organisations’ respective areas of responsibility. 🏛️ The Working Group meeting emphasised close, ongoing U.S. and UK cooperation and focused on several key themes, including 1) economic and financial stability outlook; 2) digital finance and operational resilience; 3) regulatory modernisation and international regulatory developments; and 4) the U.S.-UK Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future (TTMF). The TTMF announced its initial recommendations on July 14, along with a U.S.-UK joint statement on stablecoins, laying the foundations for continued U.S. and UK leadership in digital assets and capital markets. -------- As Secretariat of the APPG on Blockchain Technologies, BBA is closely following the developments in this space, and continue to advance evidence-based adoption of Blockchain and Cryptoasset technologies in the UK, and beyond.
