Do you wash your eggs before cooking them?
๐ฅ๐ฅ
I was about to cook an egg for lunch when I suddenly remembered something our instructor taught us about washing fresh eggs. It made me stop and thinkโshould eggs really be washed before cooking?
She told us that fresh eggs have a thin natural layer on the shell that acts like a shield. This layer helps block dirt and bacteria from getting inside the egg.
When you wash the egg, that protective layer is removed. Since eggshells have tiny holes you can't see or is not visible in our naked eye, bacteria can enter more easily, especially if the egg isn't dried or stored properly.
If an egg is only a little dirty, it's better to wipe it gently with a dry cloth or tissue. Only wash it right before you're ready to cook or eat it.
