“A benefit should be kept like a buried treasure, only to be dug up in necessity... Nature bids us to do well by all... Wherever there is a human being, we have an opportunity for kindness."
- SENECA, ON THE HAPPY LIFE, 24.2-3
What’s your act of kindness going to be today? Kindness is mutually beneficial, for you and for the recipient.

“Everything turns on your assumptions about it, and that's on you. You can pluck out the hasty judgment at will, and like steering a ship around the point, you will find calm by seas, fair weather and a safe port."
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 12.22
Assumptions can lead to misunderstandings, miscommunication, and reinforce stereotypes because they’re based on incomplete information.
Personally, I often rely on my “gut feeling” especially when quickly assessing situations which can be good and bad.
Keep an open mind with everything that you deal with and don’t tunnel vision too quickly!
You are choosing to assume and must assume the consequences of your assumption.

"Are you angry when someone's armpits stink or when their breath is bad? What would be the point? Having such a mouth and such armpits, there's going to be a smell emanating. You say, they must have sense, can't they tell how they are offending others? Well, you have sense too, congratulations! So, use your natural reason to awaken theirs, show them, call it out. If the person will listen, you will have cured them without useless anger. No drama nor unseemly show required."
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 5.28
This quote from Marcus Aurelius suggests approaching non-Bitcoiners with patience and understanding rather than frustration or judgment. Just as one might react calmly to a natural but unpleasant trait, sharing Bitcoin insights should be done gently and reasonably, aiming to enlighten without causing offense or resentment. What angers me are the conversations with people who think they already know it all and have nothing new to learn about Bitcoin or plain simply don’t want to know anything about Bitcoin. My blood pressure rises with these people but I try my best to keep my emotions in check. Approach Bitcoin with love, patience, and understanding. With this attitude, people who are initially hesitant about Bitcoin will naturally gravitate to you when they need Bitcoin because they know you won’t judge them.

“Remember, then, if you deem what is by nature slavish to be free, and what is not your own to be yours, you will be shackled and miserable, blaming both gods and other people. But if you deem as your own only what is yours, and what belongs to others as truly not yours, then no one will ever be able to coerce or to stop you, you will find no one to blame or accuse, you will do nothing against your will, you will have no enemy, no one will harm you, because no harm can affect you."
- Epictetus, Enchiridion, 1.3
This quote from Epictetus aligns with our eternal search for #freedom by emphasizing the importance of true liberty, which comes from owning only what is rightfully yours and not blaming external factors for one's misfortunes. It also echoes #Bitcoin first principles of owning your own wealth and not trusting any centralized authority with control over your assets, as relying on anything controlled by a centralized government leads to shackles and misery.

"I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent; no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you."
- Seneca, On Providence, 4.3
It’s often in the most difficult periods that we learn the most about ourselves.
Seneca's quote suggests that without adversity, one can never truly know their own limits or strengths. In the context of Bitcoin, this implies that its value and resilience are proven through its ability to withstand various challenges and threats, ultimately revealing its true potential and capabilities.

"We must undergo a hard winter training and not rush into things for which we haven't prepared."
- Epictetus, Discourses, 1.2.32
Part of this quote from Epictetus makes me think of the saying “plan for the worst, hope for the best”. We can all get a little complacent at times and it’s in those times that it’s most critical to capitalize on our learning, skills, and preparation for what’s ahead. We should assume that whatever is ahead is going to be challenging.
The other part of this quote eluding to “rushing into things” goes hand in hand with the first part of this quote. The more we prepare, the less likely things will seem rushed in times of chaos.
Creating systems in your home or in your workplace can help with the preparation of when shit hits the fan. Prepare wisely in times of calm and you will have the advantage in times of chaos.

"Men, the philosopher's lecture-hall is a hospital; you shouldn't walk out of it feeling pleasure, but pain, for you aren't well when you enter it."
- Epictetus, Discourses, 3.23.30
"Anything that must yet be done, virtue can do with courage and promptness. For anyone would call it a sign of foolishness for one to undertake a task with a lazy and begrudging spirit, or to push the body in one direction and the mind in another, to be torn apart by wildly divergent impulses."
- Seneca, Moral Letters, 74.31b-32
The journey to freedom can feel tiring and challenging often times. Ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing and if it’s leading you in the right direction. When you feel lazy or tired, don’t expect anyone coming to your rescue or telling you why what you’re doing matters. You have control over your actions. Choose your actions with full intentionality and conviction.

"No person has the power to have everything they want, but it is in their power not to want what they don't have, and to cheerfully put to good use what they do have."
- Seneca, Moral Letters, 123.3
This is one my favorite quotes from Seneca. By wanting nothing, you essentially have everything. More commonly expressed as “less is more”. I encounter this all the time, whether itself material things we cling onto or solutions to our “complex” problems. Keep it simple and stupid, filter out the noise and stay focused on what matters.

"The founder of the universe, who assigned to us the laws of life, provided that we should live well, but not in luxury. Everything needed for our well-being is right before us, whereas what luxury requires is gathered by many miseries and anxieties. Let us use this gift of nature and count it among the greatest things."
- Seneca, Moral Letters, 119.15b
Through our journey as Stoic Bitcoiners we need a balance between necessity and excess. In Bitcoin terms, it can be interpreted as advocating for the use of the most pristine asset humanity has every encountered to meet our basic needs while avoiding the extravagance and vulnerabilities associated with the centralized fiat system. By valuing the simplicity in stacking sats and staying humble and independent, we can secure our financial freedom and well-being.

“Heraclitus would shed tears whenever he went out in public-Democritus laughed. One saw the whole as a parade of miseries, the other of follies. And so, we should take a lighter view of things and bear them with an easy spirit, for it is more human to laugh at life than to lament it.”
- Seneca, On Tranquility of Mind, 15.2
The principles of #Bitcoin can be applied to this quote by understanding that Heraclitus represents the centralized, controlled view (like a government or institution), while Democritus embodies the decentralized, free-market approach. The quote suggests that taking a lighter view and laughing at life is more human, which parallels Bitcoin's focus on individual sovereignty and freedom from oppressive systems.
The number 21 has various meanings across different contexts. According to numerology, the number 21 represents a composition containing the ideas of creation, spiritual awakening, and enlightenment. It signifies the integration of diverse aspects of life, such as emotional, intellectual, and physical elements.
In terms of angel numbers, the recurring appearance of 21 may indicate that your material goals are aligned with your spiritual path, and you need to nourish your soul to succeed in your endeavors. Additionally, it could signify a time of growth, transformation, and new beginnings.
From a more practical standpoint, 21 is also associated with the Fibonacci sequence as it consists of the sum of the preceding two numbers (8 and 13) and has a digit sum that's another Fibonacci number (3). In terms of the Bible, the number 21 appears seven times, often symbolizing spiritual transformation or renewal.

Hey #bitcoiners - any good recommendations on financial advisors focused more specifically on #bitcoin retirement planning?
I want to self custody some or all of the bitcoin saved in a custodial Roth IRA and want to understand the trade-offs, taxes, fees, etc. before making a move.
Any suggestions would be great!
