On Capital and Art A friend says Martin Scorsese can't get funding. Can't make the films he wants to make. Not without begging. Not without compromise. This seems wrong. He's acclaimed. Proven. A master of the craft. But the system isn't broken. It was never meant to work for you. Capital moves like water. It seeks the path of least resistance. It pools where the ground is safe. Where return is certain. Art is fire. Unpredictable. Dangerous. It consumes what feeds it and asks for more. You can't make water flow uphill. You can't make fire burn cold. ## The False Analogy Some say this is like carpentry. That a skilled filmmaker should be a safe investment. That quality reduces risk. But carpentry is objective. Film is subjective. When a carpenter builds a chair, success is measurable. It holds weight or it doesn't. The joints are tight or they're not. The legs are level or they aren't. Quality carpentry *guarantees* a predictable outcome. Film guarantees nothing. A masterful director with a brilliant script can still fail. Audiences are fickle. Timing matters. Cultural mood matters. What works one year bombs the next. The same film released in different months gets different results. You can execute perfectly and still lose everything. That's not true with chairs. So capital avoids this. Of course it does. The system isn't failing to recognize quality. Quality just isn't enough. Vision means uncertainty. Uncertainty means risk. And capital doesn't love what it can't predict. They'll fund the formula. The sequel. The proven thing. Not because it's good but because it's known. When art succeeds it succeeds in spite of money, not because of it. ## The Pragmatic Solution So what do you do? You become the capital. But not by staying in the industry. Leave it. Learn to invest. Build a business. Provide a service that actually makes money. Use that capital to fund your work. This isn't defeatism. It's pragmatism. Would you rather spend five years begging studios for funding that comes with compromise? Or five years building your own means to make exactly what you want? When you come with film in hand, you have control. When you beg for funding, you're already compromised before you start. The art gets diluted the moment you need permission to make it. Art first. Money later. Keep them separate. Make the work because it demands to be made. Let profit follow if it will. This is the only path that doesn't compromise the fire.

bitcoin's storytelling problem... i get it. been preaching it since 2020. from the trenches—most bitcoin stories orbit the same three things: satoshi, the tech, the monetary system. all important. all preachy. when 100+ titles start with "satoshi's..." and 200+ more with "bitcoin..."—general audiences tune out. immediately. story is a metaphor for life. it's how we convey meaning. it explores the human condition. the best stories are human. people overcoming conflict. personal. hopeful. fearful. telling a story about a hammer isn't interesting. telling a story about a person using a hammer—better. telling a story about a person facing the harsh elements of winter, who just so happens to need a hammer or face his doom—now you have my attention. if you want to tell a bitcoin story, don't talk about bitcoin. --- "Immutable" She died with nothing. No note. No files. Just an encrypted message embedded in a transaction. A truth buried in the chain, but refuses to die. --- that's a bitcoin story. notice how it doesn't mention bitcoin. so why hasn't more bitcoin stuff been picked up? film takes capital. no capital, no film. and capital comes with strings. expectations. returns. even bitcoin-rich investors play the same game. different money. same rules. art requires risk. real creative risk. the kind where you might fail. where the message matters more than the market. investment demands safety. projections. metrics. these two things fight each other. so compromises creep in. vision gets diluted. the story becomes "content." the thing that made it dangerous—gets cut first. maybe the question isn't _why hasn't more bitcoin stuff been picked up?_ maybe it's _can authentic art survive the investment model at all?_ 🎬 #bitcoin #film #artstr #gm #grownostr
